What do you eat?
« on: November 13, 2007, 10:01:03 AM »
I thought this may be fun thread.  I'm a big foodie but I don't try to be snobby about it.  I enjoy anything made with love from tuna casserole to tuna tartare.  But I do have my food preferences like anyone else.

Loves:
Rare strip steak
Burgers
Roasted chicken
Grilled Salmon
Roasted Red Snapper
Sushi and Sashimi
Broccoli Rabe, sauteed and finished with a wine sauce
Broccoli, stir fryed with oyster sauce and also steamed
Asparagus, blanched and sauteed
Artichokes, marinated or roasted
Asian Style pickled veggies
Cauliflower, steamed or gratineed
Classic Caesar salad, no chicken anywhere
Asian noodle dishes, especially authentic Japanese ramen
Penne in meat sauce
Steamed Rice with soy sauce

Dislikes:
Most corporate fast food.  I find it very bland and I don't want to support generic, commercial, uninspired food. It's terrible for you to boot.  Read Fast Food Nation for more details.

When I'm on the run I usually pick up falafel in a pita pocket or halal style lamb over rice with a side salad.  Halal food trucks and carts are all over NYC now and are almost as popular as the disgusting ''boiled'' hot dog carts.  I try to pack lunch as much as possible, though.

Guilty pleasures:
Energy drinks like Red Bull (Too much sugar)
Chocolate bars
French Fries (from a local joint called Sandwich Planet)

Share your preferences.

I forgot about Indian food.  I'm partial to the eggplant dishes.  I don't eat too much of it, though.

I only have food in my fridge Saturday night through Sunday night since that's when I usually bunker into my apartment for gam3z and tv. It's usually a few small stouffers dinners and maybe a thing of microwave chunky soup.

The rest of the week my house is fully stocked with Pyramid Hefeweizen, Cutty Sark Blended Scotch, Pinnacle French Vodka, E&J VSOP Brandy, and some variety of Whiskey, usually Gentleman Jack.

The rest of the week I get a coffee during the commute and eat breakfast in the cafeteria which is usually eggs n bacon and whole wheat toast and a multivitamin. Lunch is usually something small like a chicken sandwich at wendys, or the low fat grilled fish at dennys. After work I may get some sushi at QFC or two soft tacos and a 99 cent nachos from Taco Bell and ill follow that up with valerian root so I can get to sleep easier. Sometimes I skip dinner so I can have a beer or load up on some booze.

My metabolism is slow and I dont wanna exercise and I love booze. I dont eat a lot for a reason :(

That's a pretty stocked bar you have, MAF.  I've never been into hard liquor, maybe gin.  Gin and tonic being my go to bar drink.  I'm more of a wine guy.  I don't drink beer much with the exception of Hitachino's White Ale which I love.

Having a favorite beer is fun, but I stock the hard stuff cause having too much of your favorite beer is NOT fun. Oh the beer gut. The hard stuff, if I restock fully runs about 60 dollars which isnt bad considering it will all last like 3-4 weeks depending on the time of year. I am looking into expanding what I keep in house but im not sure which direction to go.

Definitely not in the direction of that awful flavored booze. Blech. I do keep a bottle of sour mix handy to mix with the Cutty and Pinnacle, but I dont use that often cause of the amount of sugar in the mix. If I were REALLY hardcore I wouldnt buy a sour mix, but its pretty clear I am not a man of many food prep skills ;)

Your metabolism is so low because your body is in starvation mode because you don't eat regularly.  Eat a little every 2-3 hours, some almonds for protein, a couple of eggs, a banana or orange or tomato and you'll be much better off MAF.

My metabolism has been slow since I was like 22. I used to work a brisk retail job and ate normal meals back in the staples days and even then I had to watch what I ate. My body got used to the increased activity, so now without 8 hours a day of walking my body has no way to keep up. I am doom3d. I DID start eating breakfast every day SO BACK OFF YOU CONCERNED HELPFUL PEOPLE!

Eating breakfast keeps me from wanting to eat a big lunch, when I am most vulnerable to TRIPLE CHEESEBURGERS

A diet of sodium and liquor isn't healthy, and you'll balloon in a few years.

My diet is a mixture of healthy food and unhealthy college person food. On the healthy side I regularly eat:
-Boneless/skinless chicken breasts
-Mixed veggies
-Potatoes
-Rice
-Oatmeal
-Eggs

On the unhealthy side I eat
-Frozen pizza
-Snacks
-More frozen stuff (egg rolls for instance)

And in the middle I like stuff like pot pies. That's all the stuff I buy because it's pretty cheap. When I have more money to spend I get more elaborate stuff to cook.

You're basically eating simple carbohydrates which easily turn into sugar then fat or something.

Favorites:
pasta
potatoes
rice
chicken
cheese
steak
apples
corn
mushrooms
cereal
chocolate or chocolate+vanilla ice cream

I don't like:
onions
tomatoes
most vegetables

Need to be in the mood for:
pork chops
milk
hard boiled eggs
hot dogs
cake that isn't chocolate
plain vanilla ice cream

I hate/despise/will vomit on:
cinnamon
coconut
cookies with lots of anise
anything with lots of vanilla

I am an extremely picky eater and get laughed at when I order in restaurants and stuff. I went to Wendy's the other day for the spicy chicken combo (:heartbeat) but I get it without lettuce and tomato, and I get cheese added to it. I had a baked potato, but just with butter, no sour cream or bacon or anything on it.

Hell, at McD's I love the Quarter Pounder and I love the Big Mac, but it's just easier for me to get the Quarter Pounder without them screwing it up. My QP gets no onions, but my Big Mac would get no onions and no lettuce, which is sometimes too complicated for people, lol.

I LOVE FOOD THOUGH.
:-*
