Smooth - http://promotions.amazon.com/gp/holiday/amazon-customers-vote

They're only doing 1000, and they're selecting randomly from the voters

Every console MOH review I've ever read gives them about a 7, or a 7.5 - once in a while an 8 - and on the current sliding review scale that's about on par with a 5

Thanks but I meant other deals.  Did you just find out about that on Amazon or is there some site that lists all the Thanksgiving deals?

easy to switch controller allocations

There're so many problems with the sixaxis that I wouldn't want to praise the PS3 for any controller related feature.  My sixaxis went crazy the last couple of days and I had to keep plugging it in and out of the PS3.  Finally, I figured out it was because the Wii had been hooked up to my monitor.  I never noticed this problem because the WII hasn't been turned on for a couple of months.  Funny how I had no such problem with the WII when I was playing Mr Gay.  Sony talks all that tech bullshit yet they can't even get something as simple as wireless control to work properly.

Oh, I am also generally a fan of XMB. . .at least in comparison to the confusing, ad covered 360 dashboard.  XMB could be streamlined and made a bit less confusing if they, well, put like 4 minutes of effort into it.

Things I like about the PS3:

The Blu Ray Player:
I was never really a fan of DVDs, nor could I be assed about buying them, but I dunno I like the thought of pristine picture quality/sound quality.  Plus it now allows me to catch up on things since I wasn't an avid DVD owner, I can kinna get the backlog as they come out.

The Interface:
Slick. Classy. and looks really nice on my TV - I don't get the critisim with the XMB I think it functions rather...well easy.  I just everything is so easy to access; music, pictures, video - it's really all very simple, and the changing colors background is really cool.

Things I don't like:

The Community:
There's no one ever on this fucking thing, or maybe I'm just not when others are on - I have a good 40 people on my list and I'll be lucky to bump into them once or twice.

Nothing to Play:
Well maybe that's my fault I still have to get Uncharted & Rachet, but I'm holding out for a Black Friday PS3 sale, and if nothing meh.  I know Toys R Us is doing BTGOF on Wii games next week, I was going to hold out on PS3 maybe would have a week so I could get: Uncharted, Rachet, and Call of Duty 4.

The Blu Ray Player:
Sometimes I think that maybe movies are more the focus of the Playstation than rather the games, also it kept the price from being consumer friendly out the door which might have hurt them in the long term, but we don't know yet. - it's a positive and a negative this damn Blu Ray.

I really like the XMB, but I've been a long-time PSP owner and heavy player, so I'm probably more acclimated than some.  Aside from that I really like the dependability of the hardware.  Any multiplatform game that is essentially on parity between PS3 and 360 I get for the PS3.  I don't feel like I have to baby the hardware like I do with my 360.

I like how it's obviously designed by home theatre nerds and is an excellent home theatre component.

I LIKE THE BIG SCREEN, SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN, P-S-P, P-S-P, P-S-P oh wait.

Like:

-Region-free gaming
-PS1/2 backwards compatibilty is awesome.  Most games look awesome upscaled and some even load faster (or much faster, like in NeoGeo Battle Coliseum's case)
-The system is incredibly quiet.
-Free online play and web browser
-Blu-Rays are the same region in the U.S. as Japan
-DVD upscaling is great
-Downloadable games are not limited by size, and so we get amazing console quality titles like Tekken 5 DR and Warhawk.
-Hardware seems to be well-made and more reliable than the XBox 360.  I'm not worried about my PS3 dying on me like I am with my (second) 360.
-Changing out the hard drive is easy and can be done with a variety of brands; you can get a 160gb HD for your PS3 for almost half the cost of what M$ sells the 120gb 360 HD for.
-Game installs to reduce load or elminate load times.

Dislike:

-WHERE ARE THE FUCKING GAMES?
-No one is ever fucking online or playing anything on my friends list!  The online community is awful, but that can easily be blamed on the lack of anything to really play.
-WHERE ARE THE FUCKING GAMES?
-Having to resynch the controller when playing PS1/2 games and then going back to the XMB sucks.
-WHERE ARE THE FUCKING GAMES?

Also- WHERE ARE THE FUCKING GAMES? :punch

The potential is there for this system to be so awesome.  But there's just so little worthwhile software that has been released for this system, and it doesn't feel like there's much on the horizon coming either.  The only exclusive games that come to mind are Tekken 6 and MGS4.  Everything else I'm interested in is also coming out on the 360, like DMC4 and Soul Calibur IV.  I'm the kind of guy that blows his money on just about everything that comes out.  And even then, after a year, I don't own many PS3 games.  The system gets used mainly for movies and PS2 games.

The Wii was also quite lacking in quality games, but recently this has changed.  I'm still waiting for this to happen with the PS3.  Sony needs to stop making 845236 different SKUs for their hardware and get on the games already.

Where did you hear this?   :o :'(  I really, really hope that isn't true.   :-\

Well, it's more powerful than Wii, at least.

anihawk occasionally dispenses with the evasive gamefaqs snark and bleats out apologism for godawful animu games like xenosaga 3, and of course the zelda titles. these "reviews" are almost always useless and shallow observations, and its rare that he doesn't punctuate them with some snarky concluding sentence that lets him get an out should anyone suspect he really MIGHT be total animu fanboy twat.

He likes Xenosaga? Or did you mean games as bad as Xenosaga?
