Tooting my own state's horn here, but lots of places in PA are really great.

We have tons of green. You wouldn't think of it, but I've read that PA has the largest rural population of any state in the US, because central PA is farm country. Pretty much the whole eastern part of the state has you within 3 hours of NYC, Philly, and Atlantic City, NJ. The western part gives you Pittsburgh, Erie, and the metro areas in Ohio.
Lots of people have been retiring to the Poconos lately--I think it's second only to some part of Florida or something like that. The Poconos are beautiful as fuck, and you can take a train from there right into NYC in like less than an hour I think. Very cool.
