What do you do with someone else's stuff after you fall out?
« on: November 27, 2007, 07:34:28 PM »
So, I have these two CDs that this girl lent me. They're Japanese CDs, so this is like $70 worth of merchandise. I don't really want to see her again, but I also feel bad hanging on to the discs just because. So what do I do?

1) Keep the CDs forever and hope she doesn't notice.
2) Suck it up, meet up again briefly, return the CDs.
3) Get in touch with a mutual friend and return the CDs through her.
4) Find out her address and mail back the CDs.
5) Sell the CDs on eBay and spend the proceeds on flaming dog poo deliveries.

There must be SOME standard protocol for this sort of situation, right?

I remember though when I had a previous falling out with someone though and she offered to send me back a book I had lent I was all "no just keep it" because I was insulted she didn't want to meet with me! That said it was a $3 paperback instead of $70 in Japanese CDs.

Email her and be insufferably mature and dignified about it.

To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis.

That ALSO reminds me, my last serious girlfriend still has my UK copy of Use of Weapons and I'm going to get it back. One day.

Option 3 sounds good, if the mutal friend is trustworthy.

I'm on the other boat. This friend of mine which I know since kindergarten, who I don't hang out or talk to anymore has my MGS2 copy and I don't know how I can get it back. Calling him up and asking for it I will never do. Calling him to hang out and trying to act like it's not all about the game seems silly too. I haven't seen him in close to a year.

"To Say Nothing of the Dog is a science-fiction fantasy in the guise of an old-fashioned Victorian novel, complete with epigraphs, brief outlines, and a rather ugly boxer in three-quarters profile at the start of each chapter."

Jesus, Patel.  I think the sheer nerdism must have scared the girl away.  We need to teach you about courting chicks.

She ASKED to borrow To Say Nothing of the Dog! I didn't force it on her!

Hate fucking is out of the question. Sadly.

I don't see how this is even a dilemma. MGS2 can be easily found for less than $5.  $5 is not worth the trouble of contacting someone you don't want to see again.

I could always return the cases, but replace the actual music CDs with CD-Rs containing crude sexual photoshops of the two of us together.

If confronted about it I can pretend it was an accident.

Patel, I think you will have better luck with the next woman if you let them borrow this:

It is slightly less gay and nerdy.
