BD also used shitty mpeg2 codecs because they thought it was okay with their space advantage.  Otoh, Hd-dvds used vc1 which not only had better compression but better image quality.  Even if Hd-dvd dies, I'm glad that it was around because it forced BDs to use better codecs.

My experience so far:

BRU RAY

+ better audio
+ bigger selection of movies overall

- movies generally more expensive (fuck you Fox)
- special features aren't very special

HD-DVD

+ more diverse catalog titles
+ more interactive special features

- nothing's really coming out after the holidays
- no lossless audio  EDIT:  Lossless but doesn't sound as good to me

PQ is a wash.  They both look great to me.

Next purchases are Adventures of Robin Hood, Casablanca, and maybe the That's Entertainment! box set if they remastered all the clips

Not true so far.  Much like video, HD-DVD surprisingly has been better or equal in audio, even for movies released on both formats.

Just watched Paprika on Blugay, omg its gorgeous. Ill dip into HDDVD eventually, but when I want my high quality anime/cg, blugay is the clear winner.

I almost didnt get it today. I went to the store on the way home and didnt see it and like flipped so I took the DVD to the counter and grilled them until they found a copy for me. Then responding to the rush of victory I ran madly to the blugays and grabbed Tekkon Kinkreet

Most of them I got on good sales, believe it or not.  I don't really go out seeking hard drives.  I just wait until I come across a good deal.

I'm actually in the middle of a tricky spot.  I am thinking of nabbing a copy of windows Home Server and letting that do its thing with an attached USB hub.  I just need some consolidation of my drives, have them all accessible from the same space.
