At least your taste in movies isn't as shit as your taste in games.

He got lucky then.  I bought a 1st gen 1080P LCD from Sony and there's backlight bleeding anywhere.  It was supposed to be the top model too.  Once the 60" 1080P plasmas get to be about 2500-3000, I'm getting rid of the Sony.

Take some pictures of the room at the end.  That is the best part of the whole movie.

My hd-dvd version might be here today :hyper

It's a great movie, I've loved it ever since I was a kid.

The HD codecs are EXACTLY the same as the BRD codec for all the Kubrick movies. In other words, they're identical. So dont be hatin', OP. This should just be called "2001 in HD".

And yeah, its the most impressive HD DVD/BRD yet. Sure, theres newer stuff which actually looks better (ie. Pirates on BRD, Transformers on HD). but those are 2007 movies, and products of the digital age. 2001 is 39 years old.

These Kubricks have made the purchase totally worth it.

Yeah, as a Kubrick fan, it makes my hd-dvd purchase worth it for pristene copies of his movies alone.

Do you have the new Full Metal Jacket Solo?  I've heard varying things about it's transfer, but I'd really like to add it too.  I suppose it's as good as it will ever get?

Ahhh - apologies extended. I am not hating on HD DVD. I just have only seen the BD version and thats what I took the pix of.

I saw the original HD/BD full metal jacket and it sucked. Daytime scenes looked ok - but dark scenes (and there are many in the film) look awful and are full of artifacts especially visible in black areas.

I just recently got the new remastered BD disk of Full MEtal JAcket but havent vided it yet.

The next movie in my BD stack is "The Shining"

LAst night I watched the Terminator BD (own it) and I was pleased but not blown away. Its the best version of the movie I have owned (considering my last was on VHS) and not having watched it in like 7-8 years made it fresh enough. If anything the HD transfer makes it more tolerable looking - like a modern movie.

Once I saw how good 2001 looked I went BD disk crazy this weekend and bought like 10 movies. Now im gonna be hard pressed to find something THAT good looking ;)

I have the new HD versions of 2001, Clockwork, Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut. No Jacket, yet. Ive watched the first 3 of the 4 I own, and all are eye-poppingly gorgeous transfers.

Just make sure you buy the new full metal jacket BD/HD disk with the colorful cover and not the one with the old movie poster cover.

The first FMJ released on HD/BD with the movie poster cover is an AWFUL transfer.

Himuro, the composition in that shot is amazing.  To think, lining up that many natural elements into a shot with your own addition, captured in perfection, I can't wait to see this movie in HD.
