Nerdy ass shit you're proud of.
« on: December 04, 2007, 09:26:32 PM »
i used to be a quakeaholic in college.  i'd play that shit drunk, high, and skip class for the sake of "pwning d00dz."  while searching through some files i came across an ode to the game that helped me achieve "academic probation" status (circa '97-'98) -- using the art of rhyme nonetheless.  join me by posting some of your best nerd works.

telefragged.

ran as fast as I could to a spot
with a box, grabbed 10 slugs and searched for a rock.
each second was slowly ticking off the clock,
time was of the essence,
so I relayed a text message,
saying "fuck you campers", killed one, then searched for my next hit.
gathered about 100 rounds of ammo,
with my camo, went into the battlefield like rambo,
piled up mad amounts of bodies the size of Lambo.
I had about 25 health, searching for more was a gamble,
I trampled... over bodies left and right,
with a rocket launcher in sight,
sacrificed some life.
dropped down over 35feet in height,
luckily a health pack was on its right.
re-energized I unleashed projectiles with full force and might,
I wasn't afraid to fight,
my handle: "the waiter", serving fools all night.
blasting off 5 rockets in every which way,
to avoid getting hit, i swayed,
followed the footsteps of my prey,
grinned at the gibs and licked my lips as the blood sprayed.
see, this wasn't a game, because pride led to shame,
in the end, i had a 40 next to my name,
and a playing field with corpses mangled and maimed.

I have SO many Godzilla movies, and the 90's Gamera (like modern Godzilla films, but better) trilogy, of which I'm rather proud to own.

When I play CS:S I dominate whatever server I'm on extremely often.  :gun  I'm good at FPS.  BOOM HEADSHOT!  I've seen every episode of Pure Pwnage and have turned several people on to it.   :-*

oh I forgot, I have a shitload of those marvel comics cards.  I guess I read a lot of comics but it's ONLY batman.  weird gay obsession I guess.  I go to 12-16 player Halo LAN parties semi-regularly (about once a month).  I always do really good (first or second) in the beginning but then I get grouchy and start swearing and shouting at the guy to change the map (all in good fun) and start losing like hell.

My star wars collection.  Yes, you heard me. My copy of Star Wars Christmas Special was pretty nice until someone made a digital copy and now it is easy to get.  I did have an 8track copy of The Empire Strikes back soundtrack. I didn't know anyone else with that. One time I left it playing at night and fell asleep, only to be awakend by the track that featured the lazer sound effects. Scared the crap out of me. Went back to sleep and was woken up again by the heavy breathing of Darth Vader.

And yes I had an 8track player, a Fisher stereo with an 8track player.

Yeah, that's pretty pathetic.

Collected Comic Books and Marvel Cards.  I would die for a Marvel Series 1 complete collection, Hyp.
Played or own all major consoles with the exception of the obscure ones like Pippin and FM Towns Marty.
Maxed out the clock in FF7; maxed character levels; got all Summons and Ultimate Weapons; defeated both Ruby and Emerald; had three complete sets of Master Materia.
Buys videogame related toys, plushies, and artbooks.

I have a pretty large comic book collection. I stopped buying comics about a year after the release of the first X-Men film (I hated the direction things were going after that), but I'm definitely proud of all the stuff I have. I had always been somewhat interested in the X-Men due to the cartoon, but I didn't become totally obsessed until the whole Onslaught story arc. Yeah yeah, hate all you want but as a ten year old kid the entire story was captivating.

Outside of the X-Men stuff I also have a nice amount of other Marvel stuff, as well as some oldies including Tales of Suspece #93 from 1967 (good condition) and Fantastic Four #48 and 49 from 1966, ie the first two episodes of the "Galactus Trilogy".

I also have a big Star Wars toy collection...

i don't think the cards are worth much these days, sadly.  :-\  i looked a couple of the holograms up on ebay and they could be found for $10 or less, you might be able to get the complete set for pretty cheap if you really wanted.  i had a similar FF obsession, i had to max my chars out to level 99 in FF3 (US version).  felt so good to be godly in the last battle!

I have a massive comic book collection.  My father is all into comics (or was, anyway...I don't think he buys them anymore) and got my brother and I into them.  Every week, we'd go to the comic store and buy a stack of comics.  Then in 1993, he decided to open up a comic shop of his own as a side business.  We were now able to buy anything we wanted for ourselves for like 50% of the normal cost.  I got literally every book that came out on some weeks, and my anime VHS tape collection grew and grew.  The store only lasted a few years (the "crash" of 1995 killed it), but after that, we kept buying the same amount of comics, eventually going mail-order only and spending around $400-$500 a month of everything.  Most of that was from all the shit I'd get.  My dad didn't mind spending this much on me for comics.  Nothing else...games?  FORGET IT.  Anime too.  I had to buy all that on my own.  But he kept buying me comics right up until I left for Japan in summer 2005.  There are rows and rows of longboxes in the attic filled with comics now.  My manga collection takes up an entire wall in my room.  And my anime collection has actually gone down; stopped buying a lot of stuff years ago and just download shit now.

My game collection is also pretty big, although before I left for Japan I got rid of a lot of stuff, including my entire Genesis/Sega CD/32X collection.

My video game (And a few anime characters too) toy collection is also getting a little big.  I snagged a large Iroha (Samurai Spirits) figure and a pirate version B. Jenet (Garou MOTW, KOF) at a new shop for a good price, and found I didn't really have any space left for more (I just keep the stuff on top of my desk and on top of my game shelf).  I think it's about time to look into selling this stuff off on eBay or something.  A friend of mine bought a figure for 1900 yen and sold it on eBay for $50 a few days after.  I was amazed.

Is your wife a gamer too, lyte?

Naw she doesn't give two shits about gaming, but she doesn't hate it or anything and it has never been any kind of problem in our relationship.  I don't think I could have married someone who would be like "all you do is play these damn games blah blah"  But then I only play games when I have free time and I'm by myself or at night before bed.

It's weird because a lot of her friends like games and when they come over, they'll be like "Oh you have Puyo Puyo?  Let's play!" or "I love Shin Sangoku Musou games!"  My wife gets this baffled look on her face. She does like to play DDR with me occasionally, loves to do the 2P stuff in Mario Galaxy, and likes Wii Fit though.  Basically she likes the Wii a little bit and doesn't care about anything else.  She got a DS Lite months ago but that was only for the English training games.  I got her Face Training too.

But I definitely want to make sure our next apartment is bigger...I need my own little nerd room for all my games and shit.  The living room is filled with games, toys, posters, and all that kinda crap and I know she'd rather have it looking less like a 16 year-old nerd's room.   :lol

She's a bit of an anime nerd.  She fucking LOVES One Piece and Naruto, and often searches for anime series on Youtube and then goes and watches the entire block of shows over a week or so.  I came home yesterday and found her watching Reborn, which looked really, really WEIRD.
