How to beat a speeding ticket?
« on: December 07, 2007, 05:20:28 PM »
Anyone know any good strategies for beating speeding tickets? I got pulled over out in bumfuck nowhere for going 70 in a 55 at like 1 AM at night when no one was there.

I googled it and there are tons of sites offering e-books and shit like that for money, which are probably scams - just wondering if anyone here has done it?

i always got my ex out of them by going to court and telling the judge we pleaded not guilty and we had pictures for our case.  they dismissed it every time.

we didn't even have pictures after the first time.

the first time we tried this was for a cracked windshield.  we took pictures of it and brought them in and told the judge we had pictures.  he didn't ask any questions and just dismissed it.  so we decided to try it for running a red light a few months later.  dismissed.  we didn't even have pictures the second time.

I don't know what you're looking for.  There isn't some abusable method for beating these cases.

I supposed the best you can do if you decide not to plead guilty is ask to see some sort of report of calibration of the officer's radar gun, which they are supposed to get every so often I believe, and hope that it's old or something.  However, in the few times I've been to traffic court, the judge embarassed the FUCK out of people who try to plead their case.  I think you're better off just going in, pleading guilty, hope they give you a break for being honest, and think of your fine as a driving tax.

and for the record, i would never try this for myself.  i've never had a ticket.  my ex was willing to do it and it wasn't me that had to talk to the judge.

i'd be scared he'd just try to make an example out of me.

Sometimes you get lucky if decide to fight your ticket. I went to court once with nothing but my opinion that the cop had clocked me before I passed the speed limit sign. I was slowing down as I approached it, but he claimed that I was still doing 56 in a 45 when I crossed into the new speed zone (he was hiding behind a tree waiting to bust people right as the speed limit changes). Normally I would have justed paid it, but it pissed me off that he would bust me on some crappy little charge that like, so I decided to go to court. It was a weak defense that no doubt wouldn't have gotten me anywhere, but the cop didn't show up so the judge threw it out.

When you get pulled over for speeding, the first thing you should ask is when the last time was that the cop calibrated their speed radar. If they can't remember, or if it's been a long time, you'll get off. Aside from that, next time, invest in a radar detector, dude!  :-*
