for consistenly making bullshots better than anybody else.

That's better anti-aliasing than my two 8800GTX can produce.

Yeah, from the same people that swear that Killzone 2 gameplay looks just like the target render.

heyooooo

anyway, i don't see what's so extraordinary about these bullshots -- they've just got the usual high resolution and perfect aa. ubisoft paints whole tableaux in the backgrounds of their screens. i'm more inclined to give xbots credit for their capacity to be offended by everything sony does -- it's helenlovejoyesque

The difference is that Sony actually get people to believe in their bullshots & bullvideos.  hence, the props.

I was just playing Halo 3 today.  My god that game is a technical disaster.  And the artwork...  OMG those brutes..

Nothing better than looking at a complex lighting system gleaming off of a blurry textured highway...

At least Insomniac seems somewhat competant...

They improved the cutscene graphics for the PC version of Halo 2 quite a bit.  More objects were added, textural detail was increased, and pop-in artifacts were gotten rid of.

I'm hoping they'll do the same for the PC Halo 3.  It'll probably be awhile before MS announces the PC version though.

they are great developers, but in the space of two games (1 average, 1 great) they are now the water mark for next gen games dev and NO ONE ELSE can do what they can?

Insomniac does have this habit of making other developers look bad.  That's why they aren't just developer of the year but also developer of the century!

Prey was not that bad.  a year or two ago, it's graphics weren't bad looking.  the portal puzzles were pretty easy but the gunplay was actually pretty fun.  Never tried it's online play, that community probably lasted 2 weeks.

I realize this sounds (re: is) biased coming from somebody who doesn't own or plan to soon own a PS3 but what is the big deal about going from 40-60 players?  You can't really go above 25 players without classes before the multiplayer gets boring.  If Insomniac plans to have vastly different classes/character types on each side, then there's something to get excited about.  I wonder how they're going add in 8P co-op.  Do like..the setpieces work out for that?

And I also don't get how these screens look that good.  It actually looks more generic than Halo3 but at least Halo3 had awesome lighting (at enormous cost to everything else).

I think it looks good but it's art style doesn't look too unique (especially compared to killzone).  By pure technical standards, I think Battlefield: BC might look better but they're obviously doing very different things.

I kind of fear Insomniac is becoming a factory. I don't necessarily see it in their games-- it's not that any particular game is devoid of creativity or humor or particularly different from when Insomniac was not a 1 AAA game a year company-- but I fear that games are just not given the proper time to stew with only 1 year development time.

But I can't come to this conclusion based on what I've played of their games :\

Insomniac needs to work on their analog controls this time around.  At first I thought it was just the crappy SIXAXIS but after playing Call of Duty 4 and UT3 on the PS3 it becomes apparent that it is Insomniac and not the Sony hardware.

Makes sense. Given what they're able to put under such stringent constraints, it's reasonable to assume that they could do even more with extra time.

It should be called "GameCube Syndrome."

Question: Does anyone actually think it will look like that when released?  I don't.  If it does, I'll fucking eat my hat and become the biggest Sfag GAF or any other forum has ever seen.

Those screens look insane and the jump between Resistance 1 and 2 (according to these screenshots) is like a generation.

And all of that looks wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too posed which leads me to believe it's been heavily cleaned up in Photoshop.

This just seems as bad as the people who thought Halo would look like the E32k6 trailer.

Yeah, I'd like to give Sony some credit too.  For making sure that all of their first party PS3 games are actually rendered in true 720p, and not some lower res bullshit.

Edit: Also, if you look at the "bullshots" for Ratchet on the PS3, you'll notice the final game looked very similar.

It's a beautiful thing having it on my virtual console. :)  I also picked up 1080 Snowboarding just yesterday.  I consider those two games "sister games" since they had virtually the same development team.

Seriously, a compilation of Insomniac's PS2&PS3 games has 1/4 the appeal of the Orange Box.

The R&C games are all well made games.   The only problem is that each iteration comes out too quickly with too few innovations.  Resistance, though, is just kinda irrelevant.

Insomniac cranks out high quality game year after year?

Ratchet was a 7 out of 10 game at best
Resistance was good, but was a fairly generic shooter which was helped by being the first decent FPS on a Sony console (see masses of Sony fans : "I've never played an FPS before but this is amazing!")

It's not that they aren't good developers, it's the wanton hyperbole that Sony fans just can't help spewing out of their asses after 1 decent and 1 very average game.

Well, ok.  I guess I got your point of view pretty quickly in that reply.  We get it.  You hate Insomniac and Sony.  Thanks for the memo.  Seriously, I guess all those press members who gave Resistance 8 out of 10, and 9 out of 10 were just idiots who never played a FPS as well, right?

The same goes for Ratchet.  Just because you think the series is crap doesn't mean the rest of the world does.  Yeah, it's crazy I know.

Some people take this system wars bullshit a little too far.  Just because one jackass on GAF proclaims Insomniac "Developer of the Century" doesn't mean you have to rant about it for the next month.  Why would you take such a claim seriously?  There are a lot of dumb opinions out there and you've decided to take this one as really offensive for some reason.

No, I don't think they're developer of the century, or even the decade, but I do think they're one of the best development houses out there right now.  For what kind of games they make, they make them well.  I expect Resistance 2 to show that even more.  Resistance 1 was just a first start for a new franchise, and it was solid in most people's opinion.  The sequel might just elevate it to Halo like respect levels, even if that upsets you.

Listen Charlie,

You're assuming I'm just one of those Sony bots which is hilarious, as it seems you're a lot more of a Xbot than most.  The very fact that you even think the Sonybots are worse than the Microsoft ones is lolz hilarious.  Both sides have their insane followers, and everyone on the planet knows this except for you.  There are really just Sonybots, right?   Please.  ::)

I am not even a HUGE Resistance fan myself.  I simply replied to you because you just seem enraged that people were excited about Resistance 2, and god forbid some idiot on a message board declared Insomniac "developer of the century".  As if it were printed on the front page of EGM.  ::)

In fact, you went on to make the assumption that I'm a hater of Halo or something.  I think Halo 3 should have gotten a 10 out of 10 from every review simply for the fact that it offered so much to do.  I think Resistance is an 8.5 out of 10.  I think Ratchet PS3 is a 9 out of 10.  Just to lay out where I stand.

Beyond that it seems anything more I say to you is wasted time.  You've got some "issues" when it comes to the console warz, and I'm really not that interested in hearing more about them.  I'm just into games dude.  You're all about things that don't even matter to me.
