The there are bad burns in my set and this is confirmed via reviews on the web, more specifically:

"There are glitches on the discs so I'd recommend not buying it until they issue fixed discs. Episodes 9, 10, 14, 24, 25 all experienced lock up/freeze problems. My laptop dvd player wouldn't even play disc 2, my desktop did though and only locked up on the episodes that were bugged. Check bandai's website to see when they issue the new ones and then pick it up imo. It's a good price for the first half of the series. "

I already chucked the reciept as this isnt a typical problem of dvd sets. OH WELL.

try this

use dvddecrypt to pull down the iso then see if you can't watch it from your laptop. if it still freezes, use DVD shrink to try to reauthor it and then you can burn it to a CDR and see if that doesn't fix the problem

i have had to do this with some region 0 gray market releases

Yeah, thanks for the warning. This seems to happen a lot with anime DVDs. I remember when the Escaflowne movie came out, half of the initial batch of DVDs were buggy and had to be exchanged. :/

If I didn't already own it, I'd definitely be buying it. Wish I could find someplace that has Paranoia Agent, Haibane Renmei, Gankutsuou and Last Exile on sale, I want all of those.

Back home Paranoia Agent and Gankutsuou are common at Best Buys. Maybe Ed can get em for ya

Amazon has Gankutsuou for $135 and says it ships in "four to six weeks" (which I think means they order them from the manufacturer, but Geneon's out of business!). Paranoia Agent is $90 and it also says 4 to 6 weeks.

Gank is common at best buys, paranoia agent is not, its actually getting hard to find that box set in WA.

I bought Haibane Renmei because it looks like it was influenced by Haruki Murakami's Hard-Boiled Wonderland & The End of the World, which I

give kino's journey a shot someday. it's 13 eps and cheap as hell. got it at best buy for 35. it's not for everyone though. it's pretty unusual by anime standards. it doesn't have a traditional narrative.
