I tried to learn more about salsa and the like but really hit a brick wall after Willie Colon.

Do you have any other artists I can check out?

You referring to old or new salsa?

two almost completely different genres IMO.  Old salsa was more percussion based, new is more instrument based (as seen by the Jerry Rivera song above, which I assume/hope you listened to).

this shit is pretty awesome.  The first one is awesome.  I love the beat

yeah, i love the structure of King of Clubs, but LOVE the percussion of the first track (whose name escapes me).

i did listen to it, but don't really know enough to be able to distinguish why it's modern salsa vs older salsa.

can you list some newer stuff for me to check out and some of the older stuff?

Edit: ok well maybe not by all, but if you like what modern salsa has turned into, it is.  Gran Combo is an incredible group, so try anything from them really.
