I think new zealand is in the southern hemisphere so it should be the hot season right now.

for whether it's fucked or not, an RRoD means it might come back to life (especially with the towel trick) but you'll only have a while before it dies again.  you'll have to send it to MS.  sorry man.

well store replacements should be instant.  but how do you keep your saves and such?  and don't arcade games get tied to a specific system?

Wont the new machine want to format a new HDD volume attached to it ASAP?

Dont you need some kind of transfer kit or just get XBLA support to give you all of your points back so you can re-download and DRM all of your games to the new machine?

I thought the game was DRM'd to that specific console but I never tried it.

I was going to trade up for a falcon punch system while mine still worked, but my friend got a new 360 from this past Christmas time and it RRoD'd as well. I think when my 360 dies again, it's over. I'm not putting up with this crap again. I have my PC gaming rig so stuff like Bioshock runs superior on, and the only thing I think i'll be upset missing out on if it doesn't hit pc as well would probably be Fable 2 and perhaps NG2. Small price to pay for not playing the free game installed on the 360 which is when you press the power button will it RRoD or not.

I love the game selection on the 360 up until this point, but there's not much for me to look forward to so far in 08 for it. Also multiplatform games don't usually interest me, but the games that do luckily haven't been a disaster on the PS3. CoD4 runs superior online with the PS3 compared to the 360, and Burnout is better overall. DMC4 is a toss up besides that I like the DS3 for it's gameplay better, plus Uncompressed Audio is a massive selling point for me.

I suggest if it's not under warranty, just upgrade your PC to handle the games if it can't already, and pick up a PS3. And, if this is "another death", if you get it back under warranty, trade it in while it still works. This is going to be the only way MS learns not to screw over their consumers.

If you recover your gamertag, all your saves are useless. KEEP THAT HARD DRIVE

alternative option: buy memory card and transfer saves and gamercard

well MS is supposed to switch to 65 nm "jasper" GPU's to lower heat output from the GPU and that's supposedly what causes the console to break down.

I never RROD. What region and model did you have?

I had North American Pro and then a launch Elite - no problems with either.

Sometimes i would worry as when XBL is laggy, the blade menues use to freeze a bit....but it was just latency or XBL tech issues not my unit.

I also didnt do anything special with mine - I treated them as nice as you feel like you need to treat say a VCR.....I sometimes had it on all weekend or for LONG stretches of time with no overheating etc....I watched movies or played games or did whatever with no failures.....

I HATE how people tiptoe around because they wanna prevent RROD - fuck that - unless yer jizzin in the vents you should be able to run it like a PC WITHOUT worry.

I had this kind of experience with X360.

well I just did a full playthrough of Omega 5, no probs whatsoever... maybe I rang the alarm early on this one... only time will tell

maybe the machine just had an adverse reaction to having an extremely grubby rental copy of 'The Aviator' inside it? (thats what was playing when it flipped out, had super smudges all over the DVD)

Might try some CoD2 now...

When mine RROD'ed (once, but continued working after that), i asked the customer service guy if i should send it in right away or wait for it to die totally. He said 'it'll die sooner or later, it's inevitable, send it in'. I figured the man knows what he's talking about, and did so. Got it back within a week.

I'm on my third 360.  Lost over 100 hours of Oblivion on the last warranty trade-in  :(

If this one dies, I guess I'll send it int to MS, as I didn't spring for an extended warranty at Best Buy this last time (I was told they don't do in-store replacements on video game hardware at BB anymore on new warranties, they send it in for repair first) and I have too much invested in games/HD DVDs - but I'm pretty tired of it, to be honest.  If third parties get their shit together on ports and they aren't atrocious, I'll probably start buying all multiplatform games on PS3.

Honestly, the 360 hardware situation has been a disaster in so many fronts.  If this system was another 3DO no one would care.  But MS has been doing with great job with system--games, online-needs to be free, though--xbla, achievements, and such.  It's frustrating when MS seems to be applying a bandage approach to fixing their system.  At least fix the DRM to accommodate easy migration of gamercard and arcade games.  If mine dies, I'm waiting for a new definitive revision.  I'm not too excited of using the PS3 as a primary system, though.  Online is not comparable to the 360 imho.

my 360 died on me and i got a new one but used the old hard drive.  since i had two accounts the harddrive shifted all my saves between the two depending on where i bought my stuff from xbox live.  while i was living in japan i bought almost all of my arcade games on my japanese account and with the new system it shifted the full versions to the japanese account and erased all my saves.

for oblivion i bought knights of the something or other on the japanese account and with the new system it took away all the armor and goodies i earned from that quest.  the dark dungeon add-on that i bought with the america account stayed, and since i saved the game on my american account the dungeon existed in that game.

crackdown fuzzed up because it said the data was corrupted, but that's ok.

i didn't lose anything in the transfer so i didn't sweat it.  i just don't want this shit to happen again because i like my japanese system and if it dies and i have to send it to japan then i'm going to be pissed off.  last time i sent it in to texas and they sent me back a refurbished american one like a bunch of cocksuckers.  i wouldn't have gotten a new one if it weren't for my wife buying me one for my birthday.

fuck Im not sure wether or not I should send my box in to get repaired now, or If I should keep playing it and send it in once it decides to not turn on at all?

I mean I could get lucky and it could be a one-off rrod like father mike had, or the fucker could be on the way out... DMC4 comes out Friday! Im playing with fire here...

would there be a chance that the machine flipped out becuase it was trying to play a fucked up/scratched DVD and interpreted it as a hardware failure?

Should I call M$ for advice?

I dont know why but Im anxious as hell about this

It's a metagame. If you make it to 2010-11 with a working 360, you win! If your Xbox dies before then, but it's still under warranty, it's like when you lose your ball really quick in pinball and  it gives you a free ball, so that's okay. If it's not under warranty and you have to buy another one, it's like inserting more money to buy a continue. If you a buy a Falcon, it's like playing on Easy mode, launch model is Hard mode. Poorly ventilated launch model is Insane mode. I think Microsoft should make achievements for this.

they let you keep your HDD if you send it to MS.  So you will still have your saves.

my 360 froze up the other night like 3 times in a row, but it's working like a champ.

When it really dies, you'll know.  You'll see it checker pattern on startup or on the dash.

Just keep playing til it dies
