I dunno, rumblings from the press-- who, imo, haven't even seen the game-- have been very positive early. 1up is already sucking the game's balls.

I don't think any game had this much video footage shown without any member of the press understanding how it plays.  I'm really worried about this game cause they've been making it for a long time and it might still bomb.

"might"

lol
it's still a tech demo.  it has potential.

I have faith in Alan Wake.  Isn't Remedy a really small team?  Both the Max Payne games were in-fucking-credible, so I have no prob letting Remedy take their time.

I don't know what you're oh my godding about.

It's basically going to be an expansion pack.  Epic doesn't know jack about game design, as evidenced by UT not evolving at all over the past 9 years.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with GDC, but I don't think it needs it's own thread. There's a new Wipeout HD trailer up over at Eurogamer:

Brief recap of the PS3 exclusives that were supposed to blow away the 360:

Resistance, Motorstorm, Lair, Virtua Fighter 5, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted

My point was that VF5 was supposed to be a PS3 showcase title.

But not only did it lose its PS3 exclusive status, it also ended up being better on the 360.

A 360 owner can buy a joystick or a 3rd party joypad with a better dpad.  Can a PS3 owner buy anti-aliasing, gameplay balances and an online mode?

Well to be fair VF5 is better than most anything on the 360.

:bow

I did end up buying the 360 version for the online play, though. But I had to buy an arcade stick because the 360's d-pad is a mushy piece of shit. :'(

Online lol.

But you can't buy anti-aliasing or refined gameplay for the PS3.

actually vf5 is one of like three games that looks better on ps3 than 360. the ps3 version's AF makes a pretty big difference. some of the 360 version's normal maps are inverted, such that the veins on akira's hand appear to be sunken in -- and some of the background details are garbled, whether that's due to the texture filtering or something else. the 360 version has some added AA, but since both versions of the game are scaled from 1024x1024 or something weird like that, the difference isn't very obvious.

of course the 360 version is still the one to own for all its additional features, but that's a separate matter

I think a few guys from work are there, but no one from the project I'm on.

Here's the write-up of the comparison:

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=87214

Of course, the headline enhancements are worthy of the lion's share of the comment. Yes, there is anti-aliasing on the visuals, but as you can see from the comparison shots, the difference is barely noticeable - even the 360 rendition has its share of 'jaggies' if you're anal enough to scrutinise the screens closely enough (that Shun shot for starters). And anti-aliasing isn't always a visual boon for me in many cases any way. For every smoothed-off edge the 360 version has, the PS3 game has a certain smidgen of additional clarity to the point where neither version really looks any better than the other. Also, the 360 game's pre-fight posing sequences are occasionally prone to the tiniest v-lock screen tear (always at the bottom tenth of screen if you're crazy enough to want to look for it) which is not present in the PS3 version.

Both games are capable of outputting 1920x1080 to a 1080i or 1080p screen, but scaling is involved in either case. The 360 GPU works well blowing up anti-aliased images and offers up an excellent image (especially as it seems to using a base 1024x1024 image), but the PS3 resizing method is far less appealing. The fact that you need to disable 720p in your XMB to get it running proves that AM2 would rather your display did the scaling from the game's native 720p resolution.

I was reading all those cross-platform comparisons at Eurogamer tonight.  It's scary how many PS3 multiplatform games are gimped. Thank God I don't just own a PS3.

Actually, you're quite wrong.  The PS3 version sports higher resolution textures in various portions of the backgrounds as well as anisotropic filtering.  The 360 version does feature more anti-aliasing, however, so those who prefer a smoother image might enjoy the 360 version more.  The PS3 version is most accurate, however (looks exactly the same as the arcade game).

It's certainly not a huge difference.  The 360 version lacks anisotropic filtering (as you can see in the first comparison) while the second demonstrates minor differences in background textures (this seems to exist in many stages).  In that example, the trees above the waterfall are low resolution on 360.  Why?  Who knows.

Again, nothing major, but the PS3 version IS more accurate to the arcade game.
