I enjoyed it as well although part of it could be due to "new console syndrome". I got my 360 about 2-3 months before GOW launched so I was still quite excited about next-gen gaming. Gears made me felt like the 360 was a worthwhile purchase. However, it's also the game that has made me curse the most because of its various quirks.

Co-op was fun but I never realized how broken Gears' cover system really was until I played Uncharted. If Gears 2 doesn't match the fluidity of Uncharted's combat then it'll be a colossal disappointment.

I'm pretty indifferent to the franchise right now.

I didn't like how Uncharted was mostly about shooting at faraway targets with a pistol. GOW's combat was far more visceral because the enemies were up in your face. Also, the grenades in GOW were crap and there were no convinient exploding barrels nearby, so you had to rely on your shooting to take them down.

R6:Vegas has by far the best cover and shoot gameplay, imo, and I seriously hope that the Gears team has learned something from R6:V.

i tried to play the first one on 360, but the framerate was fucking atrocious. i don't usually get hung up on things like framerate, but it was like trying to play one of those flip animation books. did they ever fix that?

Too bad they didn't fix the unfun poarts of the game, most noticeably the parts where you play as the character.

ninja gaiden was one of my top five games last gen, but there's something offputting about ng2. graphic videogame violence is so 90s. and why can't ryu have any normal weapons. he can't just have tonfa, he has to have XTREME TONFA with spikes all over them

i'm the only person in my group of rl friends who is much of a gamer, although i can usually get folks over to play rock band - maybe i can sneak pain in there next time we all get together to do that

also, not to be a dick but the only new game here is Gears 2, i was you know, expecting at least one more game.

i played city of heroes a few times on the free weekends and liked it okay, although creating characters was the best part

i made a half-cyborg half-hillbilly, Jed Clampett 2.0, and ran around typing "Weeeeellllll Doggies" to everyone.

Aside from your big budget FPS and GTA, my friends aren't into videogames, they're more into board games like Axis and Allies, Catan, Attack!, etc. However, they love playing Rock Band Pain. Four-player HORSE is a weekend staple whenever we have people come over. It's even better when we're all drinking.

I'm still not entirely sold on NG2 visually. Game looks flatter than day old soda.

I already have it preordered, so I couldn't care less ultimately, but Tecmo sucks ass graphically this gen. You'd expect them to blow DMC4 out of the water developing exclusively on one console with one dedicated engine with MS' direct and unrivaled support.

The action looks pretty sweet, though I won't know if I like the new offensively-minded combat to the defense of the first until I play it.

the new ng2 footage is actually pretty impressive. the visual quality hasn't changed much, but it takes place in a really big seamless area, and you can see way off into the architecturally detailed distance. which is pretty refreshing after dmc4's PS2 TOTAL segmented areas.

...on the other hand ng2's canned combos look really dull compared to the stuff i've been pulling in dmc4, but you can't win em all

itagaki is making the game more "fun" this time, obviously for the casuals, with gore and all.

but consecutive flying swallow is worrying me, flying swallow is a very effective move, making it like this will probably make the game easier.

Gears is a perfectly adequate game, gameplay isnt fantastic but its there, its got pretty graphics, fun characters/dialogue and is a solid 6 hour romp

Im playing through online co-op on Insane with a friend at the moment, and I agree, co-op is where the game really shines. Its awesomely fun

Havent given online multi deathmatch a go but Im assuming its ass

I'll definitely pick up Gears 2 when it comes out.

NG2 looks sweet... can really say much else... another must buy

Fable was a steaming fucking pile of broken shit, how anyone can look foward to a 'next-gen' sequel is beyond me

btw post-conference lol at TH not being in the conference despite being closer to release (supposedly) than any of the games mentioned. After watching the videos, the game is still looking a bit rough and the combat still looks jelloy. But I'm gonna give it a try...like I do with everything, and then I end up liking it....like I do with everything.

Except no more heroes.

Btw I LOVE Gears and I didn't play it coop the first time through. Maybe it is too hard to play with the broken friendly AI on insane, but on casual it was superfun and it looked so damn good.

I loved the original NG on Xbox. But I remember Itagaki saying that NG would be radically different visually from its predecessor. The same Team Ninja art style is still prevalent though.

I don't think any game had this much video footage shown without any member of the press understanding how it plays. I'm really worried about this game cause they've been making it for a long time and it might still bomb.
