demo was nice.  really clever how it always looks like a 2D game unless you're changing perspective.  all around nice presentation.  don't know if the game pans out but seems a lot less complex than Crush, but seems more exploration-y than puzzle-y.

now I'm playing the sniper elite demo and my bullet went through nazi's testicles and then hit the grenade of the guy behind him.

There is nice exploration aspect. It is a puzzle on how you get some of the stuff so far but its less of a pure puzzle game than Braid or something. It's also more of a straight "game" than braid in that it has all sorts of traditional game bits in it that are similar to other games.

Meh. It's full of personality, but the gameplay is so simple that I got bored even by the trial.

Fuck Phil Fish and fuck Fez. Oh and fuck all the Indies who shuffled uncomfortably and simply piped in with "well... he's just telling the truth about japanese gaming" instead of condemning his huge fucking mouth/ego.

that is all.

I am going to buy 10 copies.

I love how westaboos like to throw their money away on stupid shit to try and prove a point. (buy 10 copies of a game from a guy who hates Japan, buy cupcakes to send to Bioware to get them to change the ME3 ending). Did ME3's crappy ending really make all you guys crazy or something?

Is it actually like Crush where you really are walking along platforms in the foreground and background as if they were on the same level, or is it more like Super Paper Mario where it's more of a clever camera trick? (I haven't played SPM, that's just what it looked like)

Well, you know how in Crush you'll be on two planes at once? It's like that, but there's a lot less going on. For example, one part of a puzzle requires you to pull a crank that turns a platform around. The platform has a ladder but the ladder doesn't reach the top of the platform (your goal). So you turn the camera to see another ladder, that connects with the other ladder if you align them via the camera.

It's very simplistic and not nearly as interesting as Crush though they share similar ideas.

Minter i guess is up there but the rest just seem like a complete shower of c*nts. Blow's a c*nt, Fish is a c*nt, Notch is odd... if we then branch into iOS land we've got a whole hornets nest of c*ntage - Zynga, Zynga and not forgetting massive industry tw*ts Zynga.

<oldendaysvoice>When i were a lad</oldendaysvoice> we had Brabben, Bell (both c*nts apparently!), Crawford (apparently a c*nt), Stamper brothers (both c*nts) and Braybrook (really nice!)

For oldskool UK indie devs, Andy Davidson is pretty awesome... creator of my favorite long-running GAF thread.

There are lots of great devs out there who makes lots of great stuff and never say a word. Its just that people tend to focus on the outrageous personalities.

Me personally I don't care. There are a few devs who I kinda support simply because I like them and have long standing attachments to them like Jeff Minter.

For the devs that sort of annoy me, I tend to focus on whether I like the game or not. How I "feel" about them doesn't really come into whether I'm going to buy their game. I don't need to like someone to enjoy their work. Sames goes for movies, books, or any entertainment product.

As far as the actual game, I'm about halfway through I would guess. Definitely I like the game. I don't think its 10 out of 10 material like Eurogamer and places like that are proclaiming unless it gets amazingly better in the second half. That being said I've enjoyed what I've played so far. There is a problem with game reviewers where they feel they have to over-score anything that is a bit original or different because they already overscore the mainstream stuff so much. I felt the way about Bastion which got wildly praised for what I thought was a good game but not an amazing one. Of course all this stuff is obviously subjective. Once I beat it, I'll kinda give my full breakdown of it.

Re: FEZ

Guys like Fish only really get attention cos they're dicks though - there are some good devs out there who just make good games and keep their heads down.  Konjak seems like an ok guy.

I'm convinced the only reason Fish was a dick last month at GDC was to advertise his game. It's brilliant, really. Be a penis at GDC, attack Japanese games - this always makes headlines, win an award, release game next month, increase sales.

Well, like I said, I am friends with a guy who is friends with Fish, and he said that yes, he's a bit of an ass in real life... so it wasn't just an act.

Saw my brother playing this, didn't look terribly exciting, though it could just be that he was on the early stages of the game. Crush was definitely a lot more interesting in terms of puzzles, I really dug the 3D spatial stuff in that game. Then I kicked him off to play some KOFXIII with my friend :bow Japanese gaming :bow2

Crush was $5 on PSN a month or so ago.  Don't know when it'll go on sale again.

Sega should really put Crush on XBLA/PSN/Steam or even iOS.  Same for a lot of PSP games like GTA Chinatown Wars.

Ah, right you are.

There really are too many instances of Phil Fish being a dick to list in any one post.

I've never understood Minter.  Sure he may be a cool guy and Tempest was a cool game, but I played his more recent XBLA stuff and his iOS stuff and the games really don't seem very good.  Psychedelic?  Sure.  But fun, deep games that you want to keep playing?  Ehhh....

Says the guy who thought it was brilliant based off a trailer.

It is what it is. It's not for everybody. It's not shit. It's kinda interesting.  It's probably not 10 out of 10. I could easily see someone really digging it or someone not being into it. But its pretty lame to make definitive calls like that. But then I guess everybody likes to knee jerk to extreme positions nowadays.

Jeff has a reasonable position on the game. I think he gave it like 4 out 5 in his review. But despite what he said on that bombcast I still think it comes down to whether you were interested after the trial. If you were then give it a go. It's only $10 which ain't a thing unless you are poor. IF you didn't like the trial then its reasonable to pass on it. Because despite whatever mysteries the game may hold its still ultimately a puzzle platformer where the gimmick is you can spin the world.

From what I understand, surface level the game is "puzzle/platformer collect cubes."  Then there's another dimension to it where solving riddles to get another set of collectibles, or something.  Like the stars in Braid SUPERCHARGED.

Both parts sound cool.  I'll get it eventually.

I couldn't listen to the bombcast because it reminded me of how most games media respond to these indie games (FEZFEZFEZFEZ).  Last year was all BASTIONBASTIONBASTION.

Well everybody is different. I only really like to make definitive statements about games if I really have very strong and clear cut reasons about the dislike. I just kinda get tired of hate for hate sakes. Yeah the dude is an idiot and said some idiot things. That doesn't mean a person in turn has to be a childish dick and reflexively hate on something to be a cool kid. Not necessarily aimed at you but I'll be honest and say I think a lot of that goes on for lots of things.

I'm not trying to sell anyone on Fez. It's very feasible that someone could play it and have legit issues with it. I'd just prefer to hear that than a sort of let's be haters because he's a hater on something.

As Linkzg mentioned I thought Bastion was a bit over-rated last year. I didn't quite get all the praise even though I finished it. I mean I liked it and thought it was a good game but I didn't think it warranted the level of praise it got. I certainly could see somebody having that opinion toward FEZ. I do think reviewers tend to over-rate anything they think is different from the "mainstream". Something can be over-rated and still not be shit though.

Always on the pulse of the hottest current events, I bought it today.

It's charming and relaxing. The primary goal (collect cubes) is not terribly hard so far though the jumping is sometimes a bit finicky for the small platforms but I'm only... I dunno ?.. A quarter of the game in ? The game hints at secrets and shit, with yet cryptic treasure maps. Nice, but will see if that holds my attention over several sessions. The hardest thing for me today with games is to care, I just can't be bothered by my toys anymore, I guess.
