"We have the best lineup of FPSes in console history, lets muddy that up by porting a subpar one that would be forgotten by now except it appeared on one of, if not the worst, mainstream consoles in history"

Stop exaggerating.  The GC is significantly worse than the N64.  At least the N64 had a few good games for the time.

N64 was pretty cool for multiplayer games.  I even got a female cousin and my little sister to play this Descent-like game with me.  I forgot what it's called though.

I had a roommate who paid $70 for an imported N64 controller that was metallic gold. So it could be the "Golden Gun" for GoldenEye. ::)

Or you could have been gaming on a PC.  Even at launch, Goldeneye was considered primitive by PC FPS standards of that era.

Game rocked my socks from 97-99. Most fun offline MP game ever. Sadly, it doesnt hold up even remotely.

Whitey, vanilla Q2 MP sucked balls. MODS, however, make your statement true. Action Quake 2 = simply the greatest mod ever made.

LOL N64.  Almost (all but like two) all my friends were smart enough to see that the Playstation and Saturn were superior.  But the N64 was good for Goldeneye multiplayer back then.  That was fun for like six months.

The store I worked made a killing off game-starved N64 fans.  I remember we Japanese Mario Kart 64 games with a special black and grey controller ( :o :o :o ::)) that sold for around $250.  TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS FOR A FUCKING N64 GAME AND CONTROLLER.  I think we got like 20 copies...we sold out of every one within a few days.   :lol

I don't like FPSs, but I remember seeing a ton of people in high school, people who otherwise didn't care for the N64 get one for GE. Possibly even a bigger system seller than Mario 64 in some ways.

Though, I don't think GC would be considered a mainstream console.

Also, almost anything EAD pumped out during the 64-bit era was ahead of the curve, extremely well polished for the time period and usually a great deal of fun.  EAD really regressed with the GameCube.  It's hard to think of any Nintendo property that was more interesting and/or entertaining on the GameCube than it was on the N64 (save for maybe the non-existant Metroid Prime).

I think MAF digs the GameCube because he doesn't really care for Nintendo's first-party offerings.  If you're a fan of Nintendo, you probably dug the hell out of the N64.  If you weren't - well, it really didn't have much to offer.  I could see how the GameCube might be more appealing.

Rare sucks. They've only made one good game and that's Viva Pinata.

N64 had Mario 64, OoT, Majora's Mask, Sin and Punishment, and...Mischief Makers. lol Wargods

GC had Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, F-zero GX, and a slew of Dreamcast ports

Mario Sunshine > Mario 64

You like the GameCube because you don't like Nintendo, and at least the GameCube had some decent third-party support.  I don't think anyone can say with a straight face that the games Nintendo churned out during the purple handled era were better than any of their N64 offerings.

I'm excited about the Goldeneye XBLA release, but seriously, this is what needs to happen:

If this game is to be released, the controls HAVE TO BE REVAMPED. Absolutely have to. Goldeneye was good for its time but it will fail immediately in today. I can't even get it to control right with an emulator and a PS2 controller.

Work needs to be done.

it controlled perfectly using the N64 controller.  There's absolutely no reason to buy this though if you have the original game and an N64 or if you have it on an emulator.  It would obviously have online play but what's the point of 4 player deathmatch?  any more players than that and it'll get too crowded.

Yeah, I definitely preferred the GC to N64... GC at least had some good RPGs and 3rd party offerings, even if its first party stuff wasn't quite up to snuff. N64 was a third party wasteland, and the best N64 game never came to the states until the VC.

Goldeneye wasn't that great back then (especially since I played a number PC FPSes before), I could imagine it being nigh unplayable today.

I still reckon the worst console I own is Xbox 1.

*shrug* I loved it for that game.  The levels and AI were designed around it.  I can go through a couple of the levels with everything turned up (except for enemy health) all the way on 007 difficulty and not get hit a single time.

the Mario Sunshine hate baffles me to this day.  It was one of the very few top-tier platform games to come out last gen, heck, maybe even the best one.  There were a lot of GCN games that could be safely considered a wash, Mario Sunshine I wouldn't place in that category.
