Author Topic: Should I give Tales of the Abyss another shot? (Read 1747 times)

I'm almost done with Lost Odssey. Once I get the airship running I'm going for 1000/1000 and then I'll beat the game. I should probably finish it up by Spring break at most.

However, there's a gap between then and my next new game purchase: Crisis Core. That comes out March 25. I'm getting DMC4 along with it most likely.

Now that I'm in the mood for Jappa rpgs, my favorite genre - being the homojapual that I am, I figured I'd play something before FF7:CC comes out.

I was thinking about finishing up Final Fantasy XII, which stands as the only Final Fantasy I have not beaten, and what's more, the longest I've ever gone without beating a Final Fantasy. The game is fucking boring, and I don't want to spend my quality time playing any more of it right now. So I looked at the Tales of Vesperia trailer and I was impressed and I thought,"You know, everyone jizzes over Tales of Abyss I might as well give it another shot. I didn't give it a fair go last time."

Thoughts?

Heh, I was actually thinking of doing the same thing once I get done with Lost Odyssey. I began playing Abyss awhile back but stopped about 15 hours into it. Not that it was bad, I just got distracted by other things. Now with all the talk of Vesperia I've been in the mood for the Tales combat engine.

Abyss has one of the worst overworlds in an RPG ever, so much in fact it killed my progress in the game. I took tomorrow as vacation to celebrate my b-day on saturday is its gonna be a lot of WOW or hopefully Lost Odyssey

What MAF said. I'm like 2/3 of the way through it and I stopped just because I hated navigating through the overworld.

they should just done the overworld point to point, its not interesting enough to run around pressing search or whateverthefuck that action was

At one point I was even willing to buy a hard drive for the PS2 and try doing a full install of the game to see if that would make it run better, THAT'S how frustrated I was with the overworld.

I'll probably go back and finish it someday. It's a good game, just the overworld map is really really shitty and ruins it. Frame rate and slowdown and battles that take one minute to load and AGH

I hated the first 10 hours of TOTA but eventually I warmed up to the game, even if it does have its share of problems. It definitely has one of the better stories/characterizations of an RPG in recent memory... the world map is still brutal, though, but it doesn't take you TOO long to get airships and stuff.

I'm disinclined to belive anything Bebpo has to say about 360 games but Tales looks like it's worth a try. Judging from the trailer, it looks like Tale's graphics will completely destroy LO's.

he was talking about tales of the abyss, a ps2 game with the most horrible framerate/loading in the world map.

Bad voice acting and a story line that could've been great but - AGAIN - JRPG storytelling has gone so deep into the realm of abstract crap it becomes boring and silly.

However, in defense of the Tales combat team, the combat system is fun and quite interesting.

I say you go and grab Eternal Sonata.

i dunno, i liked reading his eternal sonata, LO and some other games impressions regardless of how positive/negative they were.

framerate mostly.

i am pretty forgiving when it comes to loading, i mean it was bad but not magna carta bad.

the world map isn't so bad. my problem is mainly luke and the lack of interesting battle options at the beginning (at least compared to symphonia)

wtf this game is a lot better than i gave it credit for

the battle system is hack and slash so far but other than that it's getting better as time goes on
