2/24 - what did you play this weekend?
« on: February 24, 2008, 10:40:38 PM »
Its good to be back to games....all I played was a handful of PS3 games today, but I had a great time.

- Dynasty Warriors 6: I liked it - but only played one mission before shelving it. Will get back to it later.

- Dynasty Warriors: GUNDAM - continuing on

- Pixel Junk Racers - I hadnt played this much before but once you get into the more complicated challenges it actually makes the slot racing very fun.

- Mortal Kombat II - got creamed by some pro's online.

Only LO.  I think I got to almost the end of disc 1 yesterday morning.  Haven't turned it on since.  I just got worn out from all the random encounters.

Lost Odyssey - made it up to disc 3, having a 'good time'

Omega 5 - finally nailed the achievements, 200/200 baby

N+ - checked the demo, great game. Will be unlocking the full version this week

Gears of War - playing through with a buddy co-op on insane, great fun, were almost done I think. A good achievement scoring run, making sure to pick up all the tags and Im playing as Dom so I get those achieves too

Final Fight One (GBA) - all the fun of the coin-op, in your pocket! Its a hot port, I had to suppress lulz on the train this morning (Oh! My Car!)

Slitherlink - dcharlie's gift keeps on giving, spends more time in the DS slot than 'better' games like Advance Wars. Im pretty much done with the 1st two difficulties (cleared about 120 puzzles now), now im on to the really hard 10x18 grids :-\

Apollo Justice - just started on this today. I love these games so more of the same is pretty good really

hows Geo Wars DS?

I suck ass at the 360 version, I wanted to love it - its a great game, but could only stand playing it for 20 minutes at a time, I never got very good

I might pick up the DS version if its more varied than the xbla game. I hear the Wii version is good too?

Mostly Burnout Paradise. I got a C or B license. I can't remember. I mainly do the races or I roam around the city looking for gates/billboards/jumps. I haven't really tried playing online yet.

I played Lost Odyssey up to the first boss last night. Culdcept Saga fell into the backlog because of this game. :(

Today I finally started to make some progress in the final case of Phoenix Wright 3. :)

Which version did you get?  I trust you 'cause you're super picky about graphical differences.

360 version -- it's got 2xMSAA, ps3 version has this temporal frame-blending effect instead. i kind of wish i went ps3 for the controller, though...you need to use three shoulder buttons simultaneously for advanced play with nero, and that's awkward on either of my 360 pads

Can you explain a little?  I know that two shoulder buttons are really important: one for reving up and another one for lock-on.  What's the 3rd one?

nero's level 3 charge shot is really useful, and you need to move it to a shoulder button so you can keep it going all the time. i've got it on L1. revving on that narrow trigger with my middle finger sucks, and after a long session my hands feel like they're going to fall off. being a graphics whore is hard sometimes

i doubt the PS3 controller is better with it's "triggers" but then again you might be able to play with your PS2 controller, not sure.

my config was this on the 360:

replace X with Y ( X for melee and Y for guns), though there are two skills with nero that might require pressing Y+B, which might be a bad idea if you go with this.

RT = lock on, LT= revving, devil trigger = LB, taunt = RB

EDIT: ah, charge shots, i only played at normal and i didn't need gun charging nor did i ever use Auto mode.

Why is it better to charge with a bumper than a trigger?  The long throw of a 360 trigger is a little annoying when you're using it as a button but the bumper seems even worse for repetitive inputs.

Also, why would you need 3 shoulder buttons simultaneously for advanced play?  Don't you just press Devil Trigger whenever you've saved up enough power?

you know, i never thought about this but mapping devil trigger with nero on the dpad might be a better idea.

Lost Odyssey... beat disk 1 (it was shorter than I was expecting), and am currently saved in the mansion area... MAJOR throwbacks to Shadow Hearts in this part. Been playing for ~19 hours but it really doesn't feel like it. Disk 2 hasn't crashed on me yet thankfully...

L1 - shot
L2 - rev
R1 - lock

i've got devil trigger on 'b' -- i could have put it on R2, but i wanted to keep my nero and dante schemes consistent.

if you are happy with RB as the lockon, try mapping charge shot to RT.

Just flipping back and forth between N+ and Lost Odyssey.  I've still got DMC4 sitting in my PS3 but I may wait 'til I finish LO before I go back to it.   Kinda surprised how fast LO seems to be zippin' right along....

though come to think of it, the rumble is useful for certain rev timings, and i don't have a ds3. whatever. it's not like i'm going to buy the ps3 version now. maybe if they do a dmc4se.

try to clear cache if it ever crashes again.

Hmm, I was having Eternal Sonata crash problems too... maybe I will have to do this. Will I lose the data on my HD (save games and such) if I do this, or will it only erase temp files and unimportant stuff?

The rev timing seems really hard to learn.  I would probably just take Demi's automatic route.

it will only erase game updates, everything else should be fine.

games like BD/LO store cache for loading in the HDD and sometimes it get corrupted and crash your games.

Apollo Justice Ace Attorney: It's not "meh," but it isn't hitting me the same way that the first Phoenix Wright game did.  Apollo himself is a non-factor in the first case, which was a horrible, horrible move on Capcom's part, but it was still enjoyable (and also quite nonsensical, especially the outcome).  I'm on case two, which is really the true beginning of the game, and it's pretty fun so far.  The game looks and especialy sounds much, much better than the previous games did.  Makes sense since those were GBA ports.

Space Invaders Extreme: It's really nothing partciularly original, but the game is solid and has awesome presentation.  It's the "Pac-Man CE" of shooters.  I still want to try the DS version out, too.

Musou Orochi: Played this on both 360 and PSP.  The upcoming sequel for PS2 just has me hyped, and I'm back into Orochi big time!  Fuck DW6.

Hell or Hell mode sounds doable, considering there is no achievement for S-ranking, just finishing it
