Advance Wars Days of Ruin is great
« on: March 02, 2008, 08:50:52 AM »
No touch controls, no stupid CO powers, no CO tag powers, no little kids laughing and making jokes about being at war. The story is still pretty shit but it's not offensively stupid anymore. Plus there are new units that make sense and are useful (Bikes, Flares) instead of game breaking units (Black Boats).

I still won't forgive Nintendo for taking out the War Room and removing all statistics though. And I do miss the music but overall it's a better package.

There are CO powers, and the statistics/medals are still there. Try out the Trial Maps, I enjoyed most of them.

Game rules.

AWDS battle is a clusterfuck, the balance is totally ruined

So multiplayer is unbalanced? fuck :( I was excited about it.

AWDS is garbage compared to this - no twin screen bullshit and stupid powers.

Agreed on just removing the Super CO powers. I liked having a variety of choices even if I did just use Andy all the time in AWDS.

However I don't think it sucks the fun out - it just means that you have to use a strategy based on the map/units rather than the power.

There are some definitely balance issues and  problems with multiplayer, but for single player the game is far far far more satisfying.

If you wanna talk about balancing issues in DOR, take a look at Caulder or whatever his name was.  Using him was basically a win button.  There's no incentive for single player after you complete the trial missions.

C+

...Every AW game has an uber character, what about Sturm and shit? Caulder is not selectable in random Wifi matches, so he's obviously just a bonus and not meant to be balanced.

Every single match is fucked in AWDS and plenty of CO combos are broken as hell.

I dont mind the single player being short - I spent more time in the War Room in AWDS which is why I was so upset at it being removed. The AI has never been that strong for Advance Wars anyway, you know what they're going to target.

I'm just hoping the online holds up.

It's understandable - they've tried to make singleplayer something for everyone this time and pissed off everyone in different ways in the process.

I'm not going to hop online with it until I've completed the campaign, I need to learn how to use some of these new units first.

I'll do online, but I haven't played in weeks.
