Okay Ive got a PSP order lined up... White PSP slim, 4gig stick, case, and I get tho choose a free game... out of Powerstone Collection, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis 3, Alien Sydrome... any of those any good? I figure since the game is free it wont matter so much. But advice would be sweet...

And once my PSP arrives what should I do with it? How do I hack it and whats a good source for SNES and Genesis emulators? Any other emulated formats I should look into?

either that or have a friend who has a hacked psp so you can make the battery

or you can make the batter yourself by opening it up. Of course, I'd do so with a spare psp battery and not the one that comes with your system

also note: putting a psp lite battery in a fat psp will blow the fat psp's circuits. however a fat psp battery can go in a psp lite

VP is pretty good.  I never played the original PSone release so I can't comment on the quality of the port.

PSP RPGs...?

*cricket*

Brave Story: New Traveler
Wild ARMs XF (comes out 3/11)
Crisis Core (comes out 3/23 or so? March)
Metal Gear Acid 1 & 2, but those are more card games than RPG

--

Final Fantasy 1 & 2 if you feel like playing those... again
Final Fantasy Tactics is horrible port
Jeanne D'Arc is ok, but the turn limit is SHIT, worst idea ever
Disgaea is a port for the most part. Runs really well, unlike FFT
Field Commander, PSP's Advance Wars
Get Puzzle Quest on XBLA
Tales of the World is ok, not a traditional Tales game, more dungeon crawling
Valkyrie Profile is the WORST RPG I have ever played, so avoid that like the plague
Avoid Legend of Heroes series
Avoid Astonishia Story

RPGs aren't high point of PSP library.

Im interested in: the Wipeout games, Lumines, Crush, Patapon, Locoroco... hows the PSP Silent Hill?

also can you load .avi and divx files onto the stick and watch them on the go? Im keen to watch Killa Season in inappropriate places

Silent Hill Origins is almost as bad as 4 was. It's also coming to PS2 like... next week

God of War comes out this week though.

Valkyrie Profile is fucking awesome, very innovative and off-beat RPG with great 2D art and platforming, an addictive battle system, and a shitload of challenge. Don't listen to demi.

Take a look into Gurumin, it's more of a platformer/action RPG and suffers from a bad camera and a lack of shadows when you jump (making it hard to gauge jumps) but it's a quirky game with nice music courtesy of Falcom.

Every Extend Extra is still my favorite PSP game... much better than the XBLA game, it's got some awesome music, and addictive gameplay, great visuals and music. A MUST-BUY.

Also, Gradius Portable kicks ass, especially Gradius Gaiden. And you can't go wrong with the Wipeout games, Pulse has a much better interface than Pure (which requires you to wade through so many menus just to start a race) so go for that.

the only gradius game Ive played is Gradius V for PS2, but thats the motherfucken bomb diggity.. I'll defo check out Gradius Portable. And Im keen on Wipeout also.. I absolutely LOVED the PS1 Wipeout games, totally 100%ed all 3 of them, but I didnt really dig Wipeout fusion on PS2.. is Pulse a return to form for the series?

And how does PS1 emulation work? Can I download isos via torrent and play them on the PSP if I get the emulation software going? Im keen as to replay Kula World (called Roll Away in the US I think), Tomba! and Vagrant Story

damn my loins are getting wet thinking about the possiblilties of a hacked PSP with 4 GIGS OF POWER

Check out the Parodius collection as well if you like shooters, Scenester.  It's a Japanese title but all the options and whatnot are in Japanese.  The games are perfect ports too, as far as I can tell (I have the Saturn versions of most of them).

If you like strategy RPGs, Jeanne D'Arc is really good.  Don't listen to the complaints about the turn limits, since the people who are complaining probably only played the first couple of hours of the game and then quit.  I finished the thing and the turn limits are never, EVER an issue.  They're just there so that your play style keeps you on offense instead of on defense.
