So you may or may not remember that blog that posted about the FF7 NES rom hack. Well in my search for this game I came across another recent game translated to the NES:

The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap for the NES.
I went ahead and downloaded it and gave it a whirl this morning, and well I'm not sure what to make of it. Its been a few years since I beat Minish Cap but from what I remember this game starts fairly similarly. You wake up, follow Zelda into town, some weird dude says some stuff, you follow Zelda to the castle, there's a sword in the stone and then um, I think Zelda gets turned to stone. There's a bunch more talking I didn't understand and next thing I know I'm on my way back to the town.
Its at this point that the game play differences become apparent. Where the original is an action adventure game, this game is a TURN BASED RPG. That's right, somehow they turned Zelda into an RPG. Naturally I hadn't equipped my gear so I got my ass kicked a bit before I won my first fight. I equipped my sword and armor and the fights got somewhat easier, still I made what had previously been a 2 minute walk back to town a 5 minute trek because of encounter. And I got back with 3 HP.
At this point I stopped playing. I'm not really sure how they're going to turn the item based puzzle solving of Zelda and work it into a turn based RPG. And given that I barely made it two screens worth of travel before being nearly dead I'm not sure they really expect someone to complete this game.
I'm lazy but if anyone wants screen caps of this wonder let me know and I'll post some up.
