Can't wait to see the surge in PS3 sales due to do BD's victory in 3 years. MS won't know what hit em.

For the record, as the leading PS3 fanboy on these forums I've NEVER claimed that PS3 would have a breakout year in 2008.  I've ALWAYS pointed to 2009-10 as the years to look forward to, as you can see here:

Quote from: me in January
Market outlook: I'm optimistic.  Next-gen will eventually pick up in Japan as prices drop and developers catch up technically.  The Wii isn't really competing for the same market, and X360 is already dead so I declare PS3 the winner in Japan as far as real games go.  In western markets, PS3 probably won't overtake 360 but it will come reasonably close.  By 2010 I expect PS3 to be the clear winner for real gamers with Japafag leanings.

This is true, "PS3's year" is more 2009-10 than 2008, but I don't think that's a big problem.  This generation is likely to last till 2015 or so, there's plenty of time.  For that matter, last gen is still going strong (Wii) and will be for years.

I don't know where xbots are getting the "PS3 fanboys say 2008 will be its breakout year" meme, but there's no truth to it.  Some insignificant wannabes might be saying that, but the major players in the PS3 online enthusiast community, like me, are not and never were.

like half of those are reasons ps3 fans listed as to why it would be relevant in 07.  hell and dualshock 3 was a non-issue in 2007 according to sfags.  they're seriously fucked in the head

I do think this gen is going to last longer than previous ones...just because it's no longer feasible to make a new fancier machine every five years since game development is so expensive nowadays.  I believe with the 360 and the PS3, we've reached a graphical sweet spot that is "good enough" for mainstream audiences for the next eight years or so.

... relevant again?

Seriously, when you are coming up with lists like this the only thing it really is is the fanboys finally admitting that the PS3's first year has been disastrous.

hmmm, the link gives the article title as 'why the PS3 is STILL relevant'. The site says 'relevant again' at the top of the article...

GAF spams it constantly and its gained traction in the gaming media too. You must have blinders on if you don't see it.

dcharlie - how does it not have value clinched? Ignoring the actual libraries, for $50 more you get a similarly capable console with Blu Ray thrown in.

Ignoring the actual libraries is a pretty major thing to ignore though is it not?
Infact, it's THE thing that defines the consoles.

it's only of value if it has the content - and , to date, the masses have spoken with their wallets.

i dunno, wii wouldn't be tremendous rapeton (even if it had a tremendous stable of games) if it weren't a more expensive gamecube.

1. blu-ray won the format war Hardly anyone has HDTVs yet so who cares
2. high quality psn titles I suppose there is that
2 again. great 1st party DLC Ok seriously what the fuck, this is the same as #2, I cross it off the goddamn list
3. dualshock 3 yeah it sure is awesome to have the controller all the ealy adaptor kids bought be rendered a pos, isn't it
4. value for money Bad 360 ports, little to no compelling exclusive software, and BLU REI.  ::)
5. regular firmware updates Every console has this since they all have fucking hard drives, I guess if relevancy means 'doing the same thing everyone else is doing' I have to concede this one.
6. remote play Ok that is kinda cool
7. metal gear solid 4 is going to get ported  :lol
8. little big planet is not released yet and therefore not all that relevant.
9. home is kinda gay

:rock lists :rock
Hmm, looks like only two real reasons to me!  :pimp
...apparently there is also a baseball game so there's 3 reasons.

On a bulleted list you can put the value of the console as seperate from its library, especially multimedia consoles like these two.

What you're getting in the PS3 box has more value than the 360 box, hard to argue otherwise. Step 2 is to look at what you can play on it, where 360 wins for the logical person.

Someone who has an HDTV and only plans to buy the big 3 or 4 titles per year, PS3 wouldn't be a bad recommendation at all. Premium should really be $299 at this point. Arcade isn't a bad value IMO either.
