Himu's Soliloquy on losing interest in games
« on: March 15, 2008, 06:39:41 AM »
I don't know, but it seems that games are getting less and less important to me nowadays. It used to be, i got to get this game everyone is talking about, or i have to get these big name games and try em out, but now I can really care less. In the beginning of last year I was way excited for Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Bioshock, NiGHTS, Uncharted, etc, but the only one I got was for christmas(mass effect) and I sold it and didn't play past the character creation. I feel like I've played the share of games that I needed to(which was a lot) and I aint missing much anymore. I just sold my PS3 since I had to get phone fixed and that was the only way to get the money as fast as possible and the only things I really had interest in was MGS4 and FF13 but yeah, I mean, I've already had great experiences with the games before so I doubt I'm missing much. I would also sell my 360 but damn, Live is going to be a great way to keep in touch with friends(I'm a senior in high school, friends going to different schools)

I'm also getting some boxes tomorrow to put away all my games in my closet and move em in the garage since they are just taking to much space and I really don't want to sell em.

But don't get me wrong, I still am interested in games somewhat. Although the only games that come to mind which I really want to get is Smash and Street Fighter 4. And I can see myself picking up a DS game every now and then.

It's kinda funny too, since my favorite game of all time was Super Mario 64 and changed my view on games when I was a kid. I always waited for the sequel and read up waiting for Super Mario 64 2 to come out(I was pretty smart 7 year old, subscribed to nex gen, egm, and np) And then Super Mario Galaxy came out which was the last game I really played and looked forward for 10 years and that was the game that pretty much made me realize ok I've had my fill. I've seen everything I needed to see.

Sounds like it's time for Himumu to commit suicide.  The fun things in life no longer interest him.  In a month the only thing he'll want is to make babies to pass on his "legacy."

Where'd he steal this from?  Himuro's like 21 and his post says he's a senior in high school.

This isn't really a soliloquy, Ant.

I think it's more of a LiveJournal.

i thought the use of soliloquoy was great.

i felt the same way when i was 18 and proceeded to start hanging out at parties and banging chicks.  i eventually got over that and now i'm back to games.  like himu i only play a few games since i don't have the time or energy to only do that.  but i found that at my age most people go out to bars/pubs every weekend and drink up thier money hanging out with the same people having the same conversations.  don't get me wrong, i love alcohol just as much as the next drunk, but it gets too expensive.

i also have other hobbies which help take up my time and make me a well rounded person rather than just a gamer.  i also find it goes in cycles where i will do one thing with crazy dedication and the rest takes a back burner.  for instance when i was in japan i stopped playing games altogether for a while and was training in sword fighting like a maniac.  i even ended up in okayama-ken with a sensei to train in that specific style which was 300 miles away.  then i burned out on that and started reading books like a fiend.  then i went back to games.  and on and on.

I'm kinda getting like this, too... I am always regretting my college days, where I hung out with a bunch of nerds who spent their time going out to eat at crappy chains, and playing Smash (64 and later Melee)... instead of learning to socialize with women. So now I feel like I'm 25 and still going through the stages of dating an 18-19 year old guy is... with infintely more experienced girls (most of the girls I tend to date end up being 26-28 for some reason). Right now all I want to do is go out and meet girls, find myself a g/f... I still am hung up on the last girl I dated, whom I liked a LOT but she had all those health issues that kept her from wanting a relationship. I'll just start wandering off thinking about her when I'm supposed to be watching a cinema or something...

Or maybe it's just that I'm burnt out on RPGs... I've played Earthbound, BOFV, TOTA, BK:O, Eternal Sonata, and Lost Odyssey, back to back... beginning one as soon as I finished another... and as for portable games I played my way through both DQ1 and 2 this year. DQ2 being a pretty soul-sucking experience with all the grinding, but I finally beat it last week. I think I just need a break from the genre, once I finish up LO (just got to disk 4). So lately the 2 games that I've been playing are Brawl and the NYT Crosswords game for DS :P

I started losing interest last year and then really just stopped playing games for half the year.  Now i only play maybe a game every few months but I have a fucking blast doing it.

It's not that your losing your interest it's just that your burnt out.

I lost interest in game forums years and years ago.  Sadly I still continued to read them compulsively, thereby losing the chance to hang out at parties etc. like muckson  :'(

I get so tired of I'M GETTING TIRED OF GAMES, SOMEONE HELP ME posts.

If I get tired of long games, I take a break for a while, play short arcade games that can be beaten in 30 minutes to an hour, and go back maybe a week later when I feel like playing the long game again. This has happened to me with Lost Odyssey. I just don't feel like playing it, so I opted to not bring my 360 with me back home, so I haven't played it in over a week. Now I want to pick it up again. Sometimes it's natural to want to take a break, and you should.

I've never had the problem ever and I just get so tired of WAH WAH I CAN'T GET INTO GAMES stuff. Try something else then, I don't care. There's someone I know who's 28 and he's comtemplating throwing out all of his games and selling all of his consoles because he thinks he's too old for them now. I somehow think this is a factor. Me, I never really gave a shit what others thought. I'd rather play a game than watch some shitty tv show, so I do.

And then one thing I've noticed is that from 99% of these wah wah posts, the people are only playing games people tell them to. They obviously haven't developed a game taste of their own. No wonder you're not interested!
