Pikmin
« on: March 17, 2008, 12:52:28 AM »
I'm thinking about replaying it this week. I only got roughly halfway through it back in 2002 or whatever, but I want to give it another shot.

Does anyone here have a boner for this game?

I enjoyed it.  I heard the sequel, which I never played, was better.

I got the sequel at a $10 TRU sale and I played it for like an hour. I really didn't like the underground portions (which are said to get even  longer, but some people dig it). Also, while the time limit sort of annoyed me in the original it felt like something was lacking in the sequel.

I'm gonna do things right and play the first, then if I enjoy myself I'll probably give the second another try.

Pikmin 2 was definitely a sequel to Pikmin, bigger an better in every way, tons more levels and bosses and stuff. Also there was no time limit which made it a bit less stressful, although some people dock points for that depending on their disposition. Both games are excellent though. Pikmin 2 is the better game IMO, so many lol and wtf moments in that. the asshole talking spaceship was classic, his treasure descriptions were hilarious

Pikmin 2 had more underground portions? Glad I only played the first one.

Randomized underground portions, up to 8 or 10 floors deep  :-X

the majority of Pikmin 2 was set in dungeons... there were heaps of them. iirc I 100%ed that game (story mode), but couldnt get perfect in all challenges, thats a nightmare

the dungeons are good, fuck the haters

The peaceful environments were the main appeal of the original, I don't want to be trapped in some shit chute with a black border. I'm gonna give it a shot though if I finish the OG.

One thing I don't like though is the music. Way too elevatory, sort of drove me nuts.

Pikmin is probably the best console RTS.

I loved Pikmin 1...I'm not really a fan of randomized anything unless we're talking loot. Pikmin 2 therefore....dunno.

If you like Pikmin, get Overlord

I was gonna last summer but I still haven't heard of its glitches being patched. Were they?

I still have the demo on my 360 to this day.

edit: Seems it was fixed in September, maybe I'll pick it up soon.

I think you guys have the wrong impression about the randomized dungeon floors.  They are typically very short, all in the same relative shape, only with item drops and enemy positions scattered into random, but fairly obvious positions.  They're a total non-issue unless the cave is pretty deep.

"Random underground" seems to harken up imagery of BARF BARF DUNGEON CRAWL, but Pikmin 2 is really nothing like that.  The outdoors are much more fun though, if only because the look is much more appealing.

What's the ratio of cave:surface overall?

If you do ALL the caves, there's definitely more time spent down there.  Some of them are really deep.  You can work it out so you're spending more time on the surface.

Yup.  IIRC, there's at least one in each, along with all kinds of other crap.

I liked the first one, but I didn't get very far because my Gamecube sucks and keeps getting DREs. I wanna finish it on the Wii someday.

I could never find the 2nd one.

I remember Pikmin.  I rented the game, because I heard how short it was, and ended up with my memory card basically dying on me the exact same day I picked up the game.  Long story short, I kept on trying to get through all the levels, get each type of Pikmin, etc. in the shortest possible time.  I ended up just leaving my Gamecube on overnight instead.

I guess I'm one of the few who thought the time limit was the best thing to happen to the game...

Fun game; anyone play Pikmin 2?  Better? Worse?

Pikmin 2 is very, very fun. It's interesting because the game looks rather...stupid initially but once you actually play it= :bow

2 parts :rock

I have plans for 2 more next time I turn the game on. Graphics aren't as good as I remembered, music is still dull and sort of annoying to me.

I think I"ll finish it though, I enjoyed my little session.
