I've been playing the English version for a couple of days (thanks demi), and I've been really enjoying it so far even though that I hated the original FFVII. The story is pretty good so far (though nothing groundbreaking or surprising if you've played FFVII), and having a cheerful, optimistic protagonist such as Zack is a refreshing change of pace in a Square Enix RPG. The game has some pretty high production values for a handheld RPG. The FMV sequences so far have been pretty impressive, and did a nice, unobtrusive job of progressing the story forward.

I have mixed feelings about the gameplay. The combat is fun and fast-paced, but I really don't like the how unsystematic the DMW system is -- which makes you perform limit-breaks randomly. The boss fights so far have been pretty easy, if a little frantic at times. If you like a challenge in your action RPG you might want to start with Hard Mode from the get-go.

I am really digging the music so far. I've already heard a couple of FFVII remixes so far, and they were great. The new stuff is pretty good too. Though at times Takeharu Ishimoto's work sounds a little too much like elevator/lounge music.

After playing Chains of Olympus, I've honestly found the graphics slightly underwhelming. The character models and facial animations look incredible, especially in cut scenes. The backgrounds and environments, however, look like they were ripped from a Dreamcast game. Which is not to say they are bad (especially if you consider the hardware of the PSP), I just expected a little more from Square Enix. The game's presentation is slick, and does a nice a job of modernizing FFVII's blue theme and menus. All in all, this is definitely one of the best looking PSP games.

Bottom line: You should definitely try this if you're an action RPG fan. If you're a FFVII fan, you're obviously going to enjoy this so much more.

I heard a rumor that FF7R development is actually being funded entirely out of my bank account.  You're welcome to contribute if you like.

The DMW system is awful as fuck. No one would play this game if it wasn't Final Fantasy 7 based.

Tiesto: it's just like ffx-2. You can beat the game in 12-15 hours if you go through just the story, but if you do all the sidequests and crap, it will last you a long time.

About halfway through the game and I just came across a stealth mission. One fuck-up makes you restart the whole area. UGH.

Played a lot more of the game, but I'll be brief:

+Combat is a lot of fun and fast. I never once felt bothered by the random battles in the game.
+Some graphics later in the game are :o :o :o. Framerate is very stable, not one instance of slowdown during my 10 hours of playtime. And I think it runs at 60 fps to boot! FMV's are entertaining to watch (drama lulz).
+The FFVII track remixes are fantastic.
-The story is pretty shitty. :lol It feels very similar to Advent Children, if you didn't like the "narrative" in that you won't like the story in this game. Did Nomura write the script for this one?
-The DMW system basically makes the boss battles a game of luck and chance. I had to repeat a boss fight 2 times because I kept getting shitty hits on the slots. This might be because of Hard Mode, though.
-The battle system feels a little too simple at times (the materia system is the only thing I liked). There isn't any real strategy involved, this feels more like a Kingdom Hearts game than a FF one so don't go in expecting your next SRPG.

So far this game falls in the B-ish range. I am enjoying it more than FFVII. I must say though it plays really well as a handheld game. Battles don't require too much concentration. Missions are brief but plentiful. Accessing shops by pressing triangle is awesome and very convenient.

I think I'll finish the game by the end of the week. I'll write my full "review" then.
