The European development scene continues to grow.
« on: March 31, 2008, 12:04:03 PM »
Euros have always put out great racing games, but now Eastern Europeans (formerly only known for their great prostitutes and mafias) are  now making great shooters (Stalker) and RPGs (The Witcher).

The two greatest racing series are British, Rare did Animal Crossing better than Nintendo, Mirror's Edge (DICE, from Sweden. land of hot chicks and maniac car maker Koenigsegg, and Hyoushi :-*) is my most wanted game, and even the French are making good games now (TDU).

So, my question to Evilbore is this, What is the next big Eastern European thing after Stalker: Clear Sky?

Disciples 3, the hot hot hot King's Bounty remake, and the localization of Space Rangers 2: Reloaded. Those are sort of niche things, though.

In terms of breakout successes like Stalker or The Witcher? Not sure.

sacred 2 is done by the krauts, I thought. And not the commie ones to boot.

edit: also, Jagged Alliance 3, browser-based  Heroes of Might and Maigc (oh god there goes work), Perimeter 2, Europa Universalis: Rome. Eastern Europe delivers on the mid-budget niche PC games that US developers fail completely at (save Stardock).

I have Space Rangers 2, what's different about reloaded?

What are the first two games you have listed?

Space Rangers 2 has more loot, more text games, more everything basically with a ton of balance and tuning added to it. Stardock will be selling it soon on totalgaming.net.

Disciples 3 is a nice cross between simple ARPG and empire building game. It's fuck awesome and the previous two games in the series are frag tested, prole approved.

King's Bounty was the first (if I recall) game done by the group that would later go on to do the first three Heroes of Might and Magic games. It's a lot more RPG-like but had most of the underpinnings that would later turn HoMM into one of the most revered franchises in strategy gaming.
