In response to PD: They didn't announce the Gears teaser a week ahead of time as if it was something I should give a shit about.

Good point. But do you really have AIDS?  :'(

Don't worry babe I'm clean.

Did the original podcast or whatever actually call it a teaser? I only went by the GAF thread title which said "video."

edit: People on the first page are speculating about it being a full trailer and even showing gameplay, so... Not like it matters, hes christened my ignore list now.

Yup, and considering the 360 userbase will be even bigger by the holidays I'd expect enormous numbers. But will it sell Xbox 360s? That's the question imo. The last one did, but I'd imagine MS needs something else to play the system seller role this year. Sony has more than a couple games that can fill that role

Looks really cool, I've enjoyed the first one and I'll def get this one.

Edit: After playing R&C this could be real time I think.

Yea, RC looks awesome. It gives me more faith in this game all around than R1 does.

If that was realtime....OMG.  I'm definitely not a fan of Resistance but being the graphic slut that I am I might have to check out R2 if it's going to look like that.

I don't get how people fall all over themselves every time something like this pops up.  Every single time, and it's almost never real time footage.  No wonder game companies keep doing it over and over.  I've no doubt it will look better than the first game, but based on what I've seen the PS3 display on my HDTV that's not real time, unless there's been some magical unlocking of hidden power.  The PS3 isn't the Batcomputer.  Same goes for the 360.

When was the last time Insomniac has used straight CG footage? At the worst I bet it's in engine and prerecorded.

Ya

The friend who lent me Resistance 1 said the in-engine cutscenes in that game blew away gameplay graphics, true?

I thought it was a good teaser, I'm finally working my way through the first game and think that perhaps it was underrated since the PS3 was the 'whipping boy' at the time.
I could see the end scene of the teaser as being realtime, likely from a cutscene, the devs can take a lot of shortcuts for cutscenes to make stuff like that possible.

All I know is this fall I'm going to have a lot to play.

it doesn't look that much different in terms of scale when you compare it to ratchet, i think

i mean, that one had the whole fifth elemnt thing going on, and besides the art-style, it doesn't look that different

if it's not real time, then it's probably like what kev said

For shame, Kev, this is the type of weaksauce argument that I would expect from a gaffot, not you.  It's either real time or it's not.  Who gives a shit how they created the prerendered video?

The cutscenes looked sharper and cleaner but they don't blow away the gameplay graphics.  Back in the PS2 days, Insomniac would use in-game assets to create cutscenes that looked much better than gameplay.

It's possible that they did the same thing with Resistance but it's harder to tell on the PS3.  PS2 realtime graphics were always so blurry that it was obvious to tell whether a cutscene was real time or just a video.

I wasn't attempting to answer that question. The page before me is filled with posts saying "CG." I don't know if it's real time or not. Knowing Insomniac, it's possible. But we had this discussion with Ratchet before this, so whatever.

Doesn't matter what we think, Gears of War 2 will outsell everything this year.  It will be a juggernaut.  It is riding a huge wave of casual fanfare, much like Halo 2 built up to its midnight launch.  Resistance, despite how it fares with the press, hardcore demographic and PlayStation 3 owners, doesn't have the fanbase that Gears has right now.  Maybe if it's indeed "the shit", it'll have that for Resistance 3.
