Today I played:

-Samurai Spirits Sen (arcade): Yes, the NEW Samurai Shodown!!     And it looks SO FUCKING GOOD!!  The 3D visuals are beautiful and it's even got some old backgrounds from the first three games!    And it PLAYS LIKE SHIT.     Well, that's being too harsh, but I am pretty disappointed with the game play.  It feels like a very basic 3D fighter from 1996 or something.  Seemed very stiff and hard to really get a handle on things.  Characters have special moves in addition to dial-a-combos, but none of this matters since AB slashes pretty much own everything.  It's like playing SS1 with worse controls.  I want to try it again and hope I missed something.  On the bright side, there's a lot of new characters with some cool designs.  My favorite is Kim.  The same Korean Kim character from Fatal Fury/KOF, now in SS, or rather, his ancestor.  He fights with a spear and has some of the same special moves.  There's also a black guy with a huge afro that looked cool, plus a foreign guy in red armor with some ridiculous grab attacks.  And one of the bosses is a cowboy puffing on a cigarette, who runs around shooting guns (unblockable) at you.

-Basara X (arcade):  So with Sen being a let down, THANK YOU GAMING GODS for this awesomeness.  Beat down more fools with Date Masamune.  One dorky Japanese guy watched me play to the end boss and waited until I beat it or lost (the latter happened) before playing.  Then I started over with Maeda Keiji, who plays very differently than Date and I wasn't quite sure how to use him.  So naturally this is when the guy challenges me.  Unfortunately for him, I beat him down anyway.  What's even better is that this is the same guy from a week ago that was sitting in front of the machine reading a mini strategy guide for the game, and I beat his ass my first time playing.   

-Halo 3 (360): Enjoy the game, hate the distinguished mentally-challenged fellows playing it.  In a ranked team match, this dumb hick gets angry, first at his friend for "stealing my weapon, cigarillo!" then at me for picking up some gun lying nowhere near him.  He team-kills me for this.  So I go back to him and shoot him once, which prompts him to kill me again, and I get to kick him.  His profile shows he's clearly a new 360 owner.  Another idiot joins the ranks!

-Call Of Duty 4 (360): Finally started playing this.  A friend got it and he brought over his 360 so we could play together online.  I still prefer Halo, but I enjoyed what I played.  It's harder for me to take people down, but it feels more satisfying...I was steadily improving every match.

-Virtua Fighter 5 (360):  A game shop we went to today had a Hori 360 stick for sale!!      I couldn't fucking believe this and snapped it up.  Playing VF with this stick is great; it's going to take a little adjusting to, but it really felt more responsive than the pad.

You could avoid all the idiots and just play with some Halo Gafers. Most of us are friendly and play for fun. Just post in the Halo thread and I'm sure you could find someone to play with.

Well that's disappointing to hear. But then again this is expected as SNK and 3d never mixed well. Strange to hear that Kim is in it. I've actually been playing some SamSho 2 on and off on the PSP whenever I'm bored at work. It will be so good to play against a real opponent again if this comes to Live. Also is there any word on whether or not Basara X will be coming stateside on any console? It looks and sounds delicious.

Nice! I like S's - they're a sexy guitar.  Although Ibanez's often need a bit of setup work before they play nice, even the megabuck ones.

There also seems to be this fucking little piece stuck inside the pick-up selector shaft (I think, where else is there a hole in the guitar?). You can hear it when you shake it. I only noticed this when I got home and honestly can't say if I heard this in the store. The thing came fresh out the box.

It's just me and my never-ending bad luck. God hates me.

If you hear something rattling in the guitar, take some of the plates off the back and see if something falls out.  Could be a flake of paint or a loose piece of solder or something like that.

As for setup, the neck is probably completely out of whack, especially if it buzzes everywhere.  Here's a site with excellent setup things: http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/index.htm

Particularly check out the action and truss rod sections. If you would like really low action, you'll have buzz particularly in the lower frets on the wound strings but other areas should be good if you pick lightly.  But you'll have to adjust the truss rod and action carefully as it's a pretty fine line between nice sound and buzz-central.

I think it's pretty fun.  Sure it gets a little repetitive but the big set piece battles are something to see and the graphics can be somewhat impressive at times.  Viking has been a nice surprise.  It's one of the more entertaining games I've played this year.

I finally opened up Assassin's Creed and played the beginning up to when the assassin's hideout gets attacked. It's kinda cool. I'm loving the controls. Too bad I've just been metroided (aka lost most abilities after the intro).

Still playing Lost Odyssey... finishing up mastering Sed's skill links... then doing a bit of the Backyard and Temple of Enlightenment. My goal is to have the game beat with 980/1000 (fuck the Treasure Trove ) by next weekend.

Naw, SNK got it right with Maximum Impact 2.  Especially with Regulation A.  (I can't go back to MI2 after Regulation A)  They can do a good 3D fighter when they want to...and this time around, it's a shame since the game looks SO DAMN GOOD.  It could attract people to it, but I think they will be disappointed.  I really, really, REALLY hope I missed something about the game play.  It just seemed so sluggish.  I always go into new fighters with zero knowledge of how they play; I like to see for myself without some guide or massive impressions in front of me.  So I could have missed something.  I just doubt it.  

It's not Kim Kaphwan in the game, it's Kim Helron (sp) or something like that.  Clearly an ancestor.  There's another Kim also in the tag-fighter Kizuna Encounter.  That game takes place in the future and that character also has some Kaphwan moves and fights with a staff.  SNK likes to put related characters in their games...Zantetsu from Last Blade is Eiji Kisaragi's (AOF/KOF) ancestor.

I've actually been playing some SamSho 2 on and off on the PSP whenever I'm bored at work. It will be so good to play against a real opponent again if this comes to Live. Also is there any word on whether or not Basara X will be coming stateside on any console? It looks and sounds delicious.

I've never been too much for Arc fighters, but Basara X gives me hard-ons.  It's just awesome.  Capcom never brought out SB2/Heroes to the States, so who knows if this will see an English release.  It will definitely be hitting the PS2 (arcade version runs on System 246); the release date is June 26th, same day as KOF '98 Ultimate Match.  My friend was asking me if it really is a System 246 game since the art and animation is better than what Arc has done before.  Maybe it's the Capcom backing or something.  Reno on GAF was all "LOL" when I said it felt more grounded and didn't have air combos.  He knows his stuff, but I disagree with him on the feel of the game (I don't think it feels exactly like GG) and air combos seem more minimal in this game.  For the second week in a row, no one was using them.  Nor was the CPU.  Maybe he just means doing stuff in the air and not launchers/combos.

I don't know.  I never played either SS64, just the shitty PSX game, and that doesn't count.  My friend played them before, and he said this felt pretty different.
