Not to troll or anything but if Halo3 or COD4 had online starter packs and charged seperately for the full online game people would be fucking up in arms. I dont get why its so accepted with MGS4

Well, both COD4 and Halo 3 come with brutally short single player campaigns, so there might be something to that. No one really complains though, because no one ever seriously believed that SP would be a high priority for Bungie. Sort of like how no one is really looking forward to MGO. People play it because it's Metal Gear, even if it happens to emphasize the weakest aspect of Metal Gear.

That said, I really didn't think this would be a standalone title.

i finally got some decent play time with the game and i'm pretty surprised at how much i like it.  but the framerate/lag issues are a deal breaker for me.  graphically, it looks good -- but it's the kojima art style at work.  technically, there are much much better looking games.  glad this shit was free to try.

According to Wikipedia, MGO is part of MGS4.  I know wikipedia is not the word of god, but where did you guys hear it was a separate package?  I know it was supposed to be separate game originally.

You'd think it'd at least be included in the $99 Limited Edition, yeah?

there's a starter pack with MGS4. Then you have to buy extra shit (I think).

last I read this is the "full version," then you have to pay for map packs from here on out.   hopefully the rape won't be too hard.

I'm sure it will be all that to MGS fans. Me, I just plain don't get the series, never have. I dislike the story, characters and most of all the direction. I adore the presentation, and I can respect that MGS3 is, in its own way, probably a bit of a masterpiece. But I don't get it. The story in MGS3 felt poorly paced, and very convoluted as to simulate depth and emotion. And I like a good story in a game. Maybe it's just a cultural barrier.

pretty much my feelings exactly.

But i do feel the series is some massive party that i'm missing out on. MGS3 baffled me , but i think Subsistance's camera change would possibly fix one of my main gripes so i keep meaning to revisit the game.

And yes, the story seems to be just one over complicated web of crazy.

I've played some more MGS:O - it's still not clicking and i'm pretty much resigned to the point that you have to really love MGS and have hardly played any other tactical shooter. Hmm... maybe that's harsh, but darn, the outfit is better than this.

The best Metal Gear games are the original Solid and the Gameboy Color Solid (Ghost Babel), which has the best level design of any of the Metal Gear games.  The stories are all nonsensical malarky.  Kojima's best scenario is still Snatcher  (I haven't played Policenauts though).

I had some fun with MGS3 Subsistence's online when it first came out, but that was the J-version back in december 2005.  Things have changed and this new game largely feels the same.  The controls just aren't responsive enough for an online versus game.  If they want to do MGO real justice, they need to move away from the single player set up ENTIRELY and make something completely different.

I think Willco sucks at video games.

I picked up the controls and placed in the top three in the first four rounds of MGO I played.

The only annoying thing to me really is auto aim. Fuck that shit. Turn it the fuck off.

Oh yeah:

I've had more fun with MGO so far than Halo 3.

Not exaggerating. This comes from a fan of Halo 3. Love the fucking game to death online.

I was under the impression that they completely overhauled the controls..

if not, THIS is ruining gaming.  and the world.  Wii is just making people sit down.
