So who wants to rationalize/theroize about why the seasonal episode count got cut?

I think most people's theory (or at least my theory) was so they could stretch 2 more seasons worth of content out into 3 seasons. It was originally 16-16-16 making it 48 episodes or two 24 episode seasons, until this season got cut down to 14 because of the writer's strike. I assume the other two are still 16, but I don't know.

I think it more has to do with the fact that Lost is a show that has certain big events, and those events are season finale type stuff. Like when season 2 started, everyone was bitching that every episode we never found out what happened with the hatch. But when we see it in the season 2 finale, it was clear there was no way it could have been anything but a finale episode. So more season = more big events. And less episodes per season make it so each season is less dragged out.


PS - The Constant is the best episode of lost.

I agree but for me most interesting part was the mystery of the Dharma stuff that's threaded throughout season 2.  I loved reading the speculation on what and why it was there.

I didn't say they weren't valid.  It's been my opinion that the show is a lot better as a DVD show since I started watching it.  But I have to it up against all the people who made fun of me.  It's the nature of my being.  I saw the recap thing of BSG from Xbox Live like a year ago and that looked interesting, but I never bothered buying the show.

i watched the first 1.5 seasons or so of BSG. at times, it was fantastic. but for the most part, it couldn't keep my interest. it was just way too slow and the scenes with balthar and the blonde cylon were boooooring

Thats debunked by the producers... it's a CG issue

The black object that appears to swoop down in front of the turbine engine just prior to it exploding was believed by many fans to be the cause of the explosion, and related to the Monster. This was later refuted by the producers as being an artifact of poor CGI effects, which should have been shown radiating out after the explosion was rendered, instead of approaching the turbine before. The producers also said that The Monster never appears in the Pilot episode

I watched a couple episodes last night: All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues and Whatever The Case May Be. The first was good overall. As I said last night, I knew Charlie wasn't going to die. Off the island yea he'd be dead just like Jack's car accident patient. The most fucking interesting thing about the episode was Locke and Shannon's brother/bff finding the bunker...or whatever it is. Wasn't discussed at all in the next episode, which was pretty meh. It seemed odd that someone went missing, they searched a couple days, then everything's back to normal

Also I'm getting the impression that the island is some type of life scenario generator, or at least someone is controlling events. The flashbacks often show people struggling with some obstacle, often failing. Yet on the island similar obstacles are presented and bested. Like Jack resesitating Charilie, or Locke tying Boone up and telling him he can get out when he's properly motivated.

And with that in mind I get the impression that Locke realizes this "game" is being played, and he's playing. At one point he said if you give to the island it'll give back to you. He's experienced the most drastic change upon coming to the island - both physically and mentally. He doesn't seem to want to leave, and might be sabatoging all efforts to do so. Did he knock Sayid out (when he was trying to use the transmitter)? Also, what if he gave that drug (the thing he put on Boone) to Sayid, causing him to have similar illusions? Maybe the French lady doesn't exist

Hurley is definitely one of my favorite characters and I couldn't wait for his flashback ep. I can't be the only person who was turned off by the change of tone in this episode. It was a mixture of the whimsical and foreboding. The whole "curse" idea is a bit too wonky for me. But I was definitely interested by the numbers. Pretty awesome cliff hanger (with the numbers on the hatch).

I just want to know more about the hatch dammit. It was discovered like 6 episodes ago yet has barely been discussed.

Also I liked the whole Locke/Claire thing. So cute
