I'll just say this.  I bought MGS on the PSOne long ago.  Got 80% through it, and never finished it.  Bought MGS2 on my PS2, played 4 hours in, and never finished it.  Bought MGS3 and never even started it.

Bought MGS4, and beat the game 6 days later. 


I think that says all that needs to be said about MGS4 for me.  The fact that I wanted to finish it, and finish it in a timely manner, says something about how great the game is for me.

Don't really know.  I guess it just got lost in the shuffle.  My point was also that I'm not some MGS fanboy.  I have always respected the series, but found it to be tough to finish them.  That was probably why I never even started MGS3.  Figured I would never finish it.  But now I'm actually kinda motivated to go back and play it, and I have the Subsistence version of it too, so I would get the 3d camera to use.

Yeah, there may be more cut scenes, but there are a hell of a lot less codec conversations, which the previous games drowned you in.  But now you're just going off into fantasy land about wanting to play as other characters and the like.  That has nothing to do with how much gameplay/cutscenes there are in MGS4.

Actually, there is no game here to play.  It's a fact that I play my 360 every bit as much as my PS3, and maybe even a little more.  I own almost twice as many games on my 360 as I do my PS3.  I also recently replaced my 360 launch unit with a brand new core unit.  Does that sound like the behavior of a PS3 fanboy to you?

98% of action Snake sees in the game is controlled by you.  I think it is pretty generous for the most part.  I am hoping that there is a MGS4:S or something released that has extra missions of Rat Patrol or even action based ones where you play as Cyborg Raiden or regular old Raiden from directly after MGS2.  Basically, the Ada stuff from Resident Evil 4, but for MGS4.

edit: actually, there are lots of parts where it would be more fun to play as Ocelot instead of watching the cut scene.  It would also fit, theme-wise since MGS often humanizes its villains (sometimes to the point where you wonder why you're fighting them, until Kojima tacks on "oh yeah and he wants to blow up teh world.)

Yeah, that scene needed to be tightened up badly.  It just didn't know when to end.  I think that scene is really pure fanservice, and from what I've read, it seems that the hardcorefans of the story got a lot out of that, otherwise it sucked.

I'm a fan of the story, and it sucked utter balls. It was pure transparent fanservice that attempted to tie up "loose ends" with bullshit explanations that contradict previous games, while providing bigger bullshit to explain away the contradictions.

Having just finished No More Heroes' "real ending," it makes MGS4's story pretty funny in retrospect.

I'm not being a snark, it's a real question.  If an experience is more noninteractive than gameplay, isn't it really a movie with some gameplay, not vice versa?  Or is there some sort of "one drop rule" with entertainment where even a bit of gameplay makes the whole thing a game?

I know the gameplay was pretty good when the game was going but ultimately there's nothing really defining for me currently outside of the fanservice.  The extreme and hard modes sound fun though and maybe the game is better that way..

- whats was up with those embarrassing fart jokes, boobs zooms and upskirts moments. That shit was just lame. Why was Big Mama showing so much cleavage? She was like 60+ years old, a woman that age would not go around showing off right now, especially since she was supposed to be a classy spy woman. This japanese-otaku-fanpleasing has to stop. Maybe I'm just getting old.

- Why was Otacon such a tool sometimes? I mean, it's understandable in the first game, he was a lab rat, but by the 4th game, he should be a bit more hardened by life. He was such a tool around Naomi, and he always freaked out. He was like a parody of himself.

- Wayyyy too much emphasis on the AI/System bs/Patriot crap. It was just wayy too much over-explained; and I was tuning out every time someone would start spouting off about this

- except for the real time cutscene, I have no idea why the game cached so much shit on the HD between acts. The game had tons of loading sections, and let's be honest, the graphics were great, but not unreal

- I really hated how Mei Lei (or whatever) was shown to be completely incompetent at her job. What was up with that? Women in MG's world are either femme fatales stereotypes or typical animu trash '8yo stuck in a 24yo's old body' syndrome.

SPOILERS IN MY REPLY.

In the final act when she describes the mission, she keeps fucking up and forgetting what she was about to say, until some other character (Johnny?) steps up to complete her words and so on, as if she didnt know wtf she was talking about.  It happens several time, and then there's that embarrassing point where she drops her pointer and bends over to pick it up. Kojima made her to be this total j-idol type bimbo, and I thought it was pretty lame.

And then at the end, with the scene with Meryl when shes getting of budget, either they ran out of budget for that voice actress, but all she does is groan and react like Pikachu with 'oooh','aahh' and 'mmmmm', making her look even more distinguished mentally-challenged.

Also what was up with only having two codec channels? Rose's codec was useless
