I have another excuse though. In 28 days Im leaving for a 4/5/6 month backpacking trip. If you live somewhere in Asia I'm willing to deliver the book to you in person. If thats cool count me in.

Checking up on that Chinese sweatshop of yours, eh?

Is this closed? I have some interesting books I don't mind parting with.

OK, so I'm going to send international, and I want to send the book I'm currently reading (since I'm really enjoying it, and I want to send something I think is cool), so don't freak out if it takes a while to get there.

Awesome, I will send him Stranger in a Strange Land and Starship Troopers. Without being sarcastic, I think you will like these books.

wooo

i got The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson.  One of the ones mentioned in both Wizardy and Wild Romance and in 100 Best Fantasy books.

THANKS, CAR

Quote
The Broken Sword is a fantasy novel written by the American writer Poul Anderson in 1954. Its importance was recognized in its later revival in paperback by Ballantine Books as the twenty-fourth volume of the celebrated Ballantine Adult Fantasy series in January, 1971.

The story is set into the Viking Age and develops the story of Orm the Strong; the story has many references to the Norse mythology and elements from the Viking age.

Eric P - you're welcome :D

As you may have noticed, both Moorcock and China Mieville are on record as saying they far prefer The Broken Sword to LOTR in terms of high fantasy. It really has the epic feel of the original Norse myths. It started off a little slow but once it picks up the pace, it's relentless. The sense of mounting doom is palpable.

i didn't see the men in black hats as gangsters

i saw them as a meaner version of the main antagonists but not a syndicate sort

we don't really have much information on them beyond the DEUS EX LAZY ENDING and the time he sees them in the department store.

i really like the first third as he just looses it.  like when he shows up early for the date with his "girlfriend"

have you seen the (new) twilight zone episode where the people come unstuck from time and go "behind the scenes" watching the faceless blue men build the future as they wait for that moment to happen? very good episode

I finished Curious Dog. It was pretty good, and about what I expected - equal parts actual goodness and somewhat twee narration (the narrator is an autistic teenager). Overall it was a quick and breezy read.

it was a little bit forced and precocious at times, I thought. but I liked the book overall. I just didn't think, "oh, what an insightful journey into the mind of an autistic child," I more thought, "well I guess if your narrator is autistic then you can get away with simple declarative sentences and a somewhat limited vocabulary" *laugh*
