if it were developed by western company they would probably dumb it down to appease the masses who complained about the save system. hey, how about you fuck off, feggits?

I never understood why people complained about the save system.  You had save points in restrooms--how hard is that to understand.  I guess everyone is so used to instant saves.

Back OT, does MM9 have an official release date?

Because people have sandy vaginas and think a game is over when they beat it once.  Dead Rising is a game about playing it over and over again to see everything.  Both times you play it are totally different.

Damn, no slide... was hoping the game would be more MM3 than 2, personally, as 3 is my favorite, and I love the maneuverability the slide gives you. Oh well, still on my radar for day 1.

X3 ISN'T worth it.

It is more than X8, but apparently due to some stupid logic, X8 makes the cut since it is was apparently the only good Mega Man game in years!  Lowered Expectations for the writer.

I almost forgot!  This is the same bozo who runs a retro gaming podcast and pretends like old games are better, yet when they release Ultimate Ghouls and Goblins it got a 4.5 since it was too hard.  PHONY!

Or maybe they just kept it simple, which is the entire fucking point of the game and which they've been saying they were doing all along. Seriously. People actually thought you'd be able to buy the ability to slide?? I like the slide and charging up too, yet MM2 is my favorite classic Megaman game, and has neither. Clearly a great game can be made without them -- what's the big deal? Can't we stay hopeful that they've managed to design an awesome game around the more limited move set? I think that's what they set out to do, right?

SO BECAUSE MM3 AND UP HAVE SLIDE THEY ARE SO MUCH MORE COMPLEX

I'm disappointed that the slide is out, but MM2 remains my favorite classic MM title. I think it's because the boss fights -- particular those in the Wily stages -- are so wonderfully varied. I especially remember fighting those guarded, wall-mounted lasers with the crash missile -- I was four years old when I played that and it totally blew me away.

Plug Man's level.

At around 0:37, you see some kind of item sitting between two pipes; it's too narrow unless it has the slide. I guess it's unlockable, or there's some kind of grabber item.  ???

But man, Plug Man's stage. Holy crap. I said that I was almost looking forward to the disappearing block sections of the game, but... I think maybe I've changed my mind. This stage is insane -- it makes the block sections of Heat Man's level in MM2 look like a pleasant stroll. I mean, at least for Heat Man you can grab Item-2 and sail on past. Not here; aside from the fact that you only have the Rush Coil in the demo, the block layouts are really intricate and cramped, so you couldn't easily fly past. And once you get past the main gauntlet of blocks (which incorporates every disappearing block trick in the book), you still have to content with shadow Mega Man clones that materialize out of the air and rush at you. And tricky platforms with respawning cylinder robots that knock you out of your jump. And one final disappearing block gauntlet which requires perfect timing to avoid bumping your head and falling into a bed of spikes.

'kay, I won't be buying this.  My love for any given Mega Man extends only as far as the block section(s).

What the fuck? My love for any given Mega Man begins with the block section(s). I almost got a boner reading Parish's description; given his aversion to challenge, though, I imagine he's exaggerating the comparison to Heat Man's level.

Gee, what a surprise, Jeremy Parish is incompetent.

Disappearing blocks are amazing.  The best is when you see a really high one and think "ca...can I make it, or should I wait for another one", then you jump and feeling of choosing the right option overwhelms you.

I love it when you've nearly -- but not perfectly -- memorized a long disappearing block chain (as in Heat Man's level), and near the end you're only half sure (either due to the block's timing or positioning) that when you jump a block is going to appear and catch you. You take a leap of faith ('cuz you're gonna die anyway) and lo and behold, you hear the chime and see the block that saves the little blue guy's life.

Heat Man's stage isn't all that bad. The length of the level is really short and the only tricky part of the block puzzle comes at the last four blocks of the final stretch. Plus Heat Man himself is the easiest boss out of the group next to Metal Man.

I like what I've seen from the trickery in Plug Man's blocks but the over reliance on spikes is a bit unimaginative. How about replacing those with sudden death electric fields or something more in tune with the character's theme (like Heat Man's lava).

This sounds like an exaggerated description of everything seen in the GT video. If that's as bad as it gets then I don't really see the problem.

I mean, that last part is completely optional.

Holy fuck.

I saw some platforming section and holy shit. There's like 9999 of those guys that come out of pipes and then there's this disappearing tile section nearby, and there's these tiles that are WAY up there and I have no clue how Mega can get there.

THIS is platformer of the year. Not Ratchet. Not Banjo. Not Mirror's Edge. THIS.
