When I heard the name I thought Panic at the Disco would be a dance rock band, which even though nowadays I'm starting to get a bit weary of that particular style, it's still ohhhhh soooo muchhhh better than what they actually turned out to be.

I don't think Sublime and RHCP are all that horrible, they may be very mainstream-friendly and easily digestible with their sound, but there's nothing completely off-putting about them. (i.e. whiny emo vocals)

Well, they were responsible for the whole genre of grime, which had some good stuff come out from it... but yeah the production on a lot of their songs left a lot to be desired. I thought it was funny when there were something like 20 guys and one girl in the group at one point.

Well, So Solid was the first group I recall that really focused on the MCing aspect of garage (which has always been around), turning it from simple oldskool-hiphop influenced party rhymes (MC Creed, DJ Luck and MC Neat) into more edgier songs about the "streets". Don't mind dubstep too much (<3 Burial) but I miss the tight production, jazzy riffs, and vocal cutups of the first wave of 2-step.

I've read an awful lot of articles about Radiohead (too many probably), and I've never seen them lumped into the category. They don't sound like any of the bands mentioned on this page, as far as I can tell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo I've only seen the weakest of trolls use the descriptor.

Very few of Thom Yorke's lyrics after the Bends have been personal to that extent. They might be dark and his voice and might sound whiny to you (though it just sounds nasal to me, and that's not his only singing style), but I can't think of many songs coming out in the 2000's (which is the subject of this thread) from them that would be about how hard his life is on a personal level.
