Fall Out Boy is crap and in fact, the entire emo genre is total crap. No, I'm not going to get into a debate of semantics as to what exactly is emo. Emo to me is dudes wearing girl pants, lead singer has their hair dyed jet black and hanging over at least one eye, and consists of middle class suburbanites whining about how hard their life is.

While other people might dig back deeper, I think it was Simple Plan in 2002 that brought this shit to the mainstream.

Also, I think Nickelback on got radio play in the first place because of a Canadian law.

Just about all rock these days suffers from varying degrees of it. I think the biggest reason why is that most people think that the amount of whining and moaning is a measure of depth. So whining is set full blast on a lot of rock music, whether it is "hard rock" like Disturbed, emo shit like My Chemical Romance, or indie crap. Which is just perfect for 14 year old boys and girls to relate to.

I can put my finger on when exactly it became acceptable for people to whine rather than sing- Blink182. It all goes back to those cocksuckers. Since they made it big you've had about 1,000 marginally talented bands that instead of trying to cultivate a singing voice just got someone who could whine and made them the lead "singer".

In regards to pop songs, I actually agree.

In terms of hip hop, rock, electronic, and other genres I disagree.

But the quality of music IS much lower. I'm starting to shift my genre listening from hip hop/rnb to electronic. The music is much better quality and consistent. I haven't fully enjoyed a *recent* hip hop album in years. Fuck it I'm done with that genre.
