I'm surprised by 360 falling, even if it will take til 2019 to close the gap at this rate. With the software outselling PS3 software 2:1, you'd think the hardware would be doing likewise.

maybe i'm out of my mind, i expected MGS4 to do well. I actually thought it DID do well too , especially for the userbase.
But sony fans faking surprise at the numbers and retrospectively saying "oh i thought they'd be way lower!" is lol worthy.
No one should be surprised that the game did this well - faking shock for effect is for milksops.

re: gap closing - it's closing for sure. Just not at a screamingly fast rate. Dunno what i can say beyond that, given that's pretty much true.

I think the fact that you actually believe that people are "faking" their shock, says all that needs to be said on this topic.

I guess I'm an idiot, because I honestly was expecting something around 500,000 for MGS4 myself.  The 700,000 + did surprise me.  The MGS series has never had Halo or GTA level success.  Not to mention the last game didn't do so great overall with a MASSIVE userbase.  So yes, I do think these sales are a bit surprising considering the current userbase.

So after June's numbers, anyone think Square is having second thoughts on the FFXIII announcement?

How fucking stupid is this person?

He's right on the money, they're definitely having second thoughts. I mean, who goes and makes a business decision that will make more money? Now they're going to have to have to do all that work to find out what to DO with the extra money, where to budget it, etc. I mean, thats all a huge hassle.

all that said this is Square "we'll use all the cash we get from the DS stuff to fund PS3 dev" Enix we are talking about.

The best thing about the multiplatform move for FF13 isn't even the Xfag victory, it's seeing Nomura look like a twat (i mean, a bigger twat than usual) .

how does it make nomura look like a twat? i never read interviews with him so i wouldn't know.

I just hope the whole ff13 thing is the final kick in the nuts, probably the 30th kick too, to fucking make Sony realize that they can not continue to rest on the laurels of the success they had with PS2.

At this point they don't have the money or the userbase to convince companies like Square to stay exclusive.

PS3 did well. Bundles work.

Microsoft, next time, bundle Halo 3 with the limited edition Halo console. No, really!

Anyway, we'll see how it plays out next month. Residual bundles/MGS4 effect or dampened effect due to 80GB @ $400 announcement (for September, right)? Higher 360 numbers due to 20GB "fire sale" (laughing emoticon) or people waiting for 60GB model? Probably a bit of everything.

Oh, and this is now 32 months into the 360 lifespan with the entry-point SKU being a grand total of $20 cheaper than launch. Microsoft's so lucky Sony screwed the pooch at the beginning. Now about Nintendo...

Talk about dropping the ball. MS has virtually no cohesive strategy when it comes to marketing and their pricing strategy is a joke, despite there being manufacturing efficiencies. The one thing they are doing right, at least in the near term, is continuing to deliver good games. But who knows how long that will last since Rare is their premiere in-house developer.

pretty surprised at NG2 numbers, with it's lower reviews and mgs4 i expected it to sell pretty bad. but if wiki is right, it outdid the first ninja gaiden by about 10k, good stuff.

and mgs4 numbers are pretty good, couple that with about 600k in japan and whatever in europe, yeah it is doing more than fine.

i don't really think this is that good. the series has cachet now, is well promoted on the net, tv, and live serice, and xbox 360 is filled with hardcore gamers. i'd imagine this is frontloaded-- i kind of think it will crawl to 500k in America. That's about what the original did, no? I would have to imagine there won't be any rereleases with itagaki, but we'll see.

I should say that they are good numbers. 300k+ for any game is definitely good. But it's quite amazing to see the divide between DMC and NG even on just one platform.

Hey, I more or less stopped hyping Haze once it was actually shown in detail. After that, I mostly relayed information because no one else had the balls to do it, and spent the rest of the time fighting dumbtards who posted classics like "generic," moments after griping about the character designs being too unusual.

Still, I'm not convinced that the bee-helmets are worse than rubber ninjas and stupid looking monsters. NG has a bit of a Rareware touch that way.

team ninja's visual design is uniquely bad, but ninja gaiden is so good. i don't know why i still haven't played the sequel -- bought it at launch. i got so excessively into mgs4, and other games are so unreceptive to that kind of investment, that i haven't played much of anything in the last month
