looks like a high poly n64 game

Ha ha, come now, that's a bit too much.  In reality, it looks very much like a middle of the road PS2 title.

You know what it looks like?  State of Emergency, that's what.

Wait, is it the stance of evilbore that a broken save system is a hallmark of quality game design?

From the people who brought us the hallmark in game design GAF classic Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter? Yes

Well, it looks better than that, I suppose, but I never thought either SoE game looked all that great.  SoE is a bit harsher looking and goes for a more cartoony style.

It isn't a broken save system.  It isn't like Capcom is so stupid that they couldn't have multiple save slots.  The point is that you have to choose to do what you can within a set period of time.  Sometimes you might be able to do one and run fast enough to make it to another, but other times you have to simply give up on something to make something else.  It is brilliant with how it makes the player feel the consequences of their actions and having to worry about "oh, is this choice the right one?".  It isn't arbitrary either like the Mass Effect situations or the GTA4 situations where it you know there are two options and what those options are.  This is made even better by how short the game is, so replaying it three times is the same length of a lesser game, but each time you play is a different series of events.

or maybe it just reminds me of a pc game on absurdly low settings that nobody would actually use -- which is basically what it is

That is exactly what it looks like.  Textures on low.  Draw distance is on low.  Probably how long items/bodies stay in the world are on low.  And so on.

The best is that in that picture it looks like the mall has been taken over by the small group of people who enjoyed Too Human instead of a full out infestation of people.

Dead Rising was sort of a shit game though

Well, the demo was

Shit

Dead Rising demo =/ Dead Rising final game

It was the equivilant of a GTA demo where all they let you do was drive around the block in a van.

So how the hell do you gain experience in the Wii Dead Rising if you can't take pictures?  Just by saving people?  Christ, it'd take forever to get to level 50 that way....unless they fucked that over too.

I want to see some Wii pics of the underground parking lot.

Epic fail.  That was a big part of what made the game so great.

i didn't really like dead rising, but i've never cared for games where you have to keep repeating levels/areas for experience to progress

i wanted to like it, though, and i appreciated the scale

These screenshots look horrible and the way the gameplay elements are being cut up sound terrible.

I feel sorry for Wii owners who are convincing themselves this will be anything other than a shit tastic port and a cut down experience.

Dead Rising is a game I'd definitely want to play and get more into (I own a copy, got it for Xmas '06)... but I'm so intimidated by it - seems extremely challenging, (I am terrible at 3D action games) and has the complicated save system, and has escort missions... seems like it'd be much too nerve-wracking for me. But what little I've played was great, really clever take on the whole 'sandbox' gaming concept.

the save system is not complicated. you just have to think when to save, and even then, knowing when to save is mostly common sense. ie, don't save in the middle of a mission when you have like 5 seconds left. Don't save during missions at all. Just save before the mission, do the mission, save after the mission. It's really quite simple. Also, there's a bathroom (where you go to save) every 5 feet.

the game can be challenging at first, but with a little effort you can get accustomed to the game easily. the escort missions I'll give you, but they're optional and they're far easier to do when you replay the game and are a higher level.

There are actually a total of 1100 points you can get with Dead Rising.  I don't know if they fixed the glitch or not, but you can trick it to give you the mass killings achievement twice.

I'm not gonna bother going through with it, but I was gonna say that you can get the achievement twice by not killing any enemy until the garage, then only reaching the enemy limit with the cars.  I wanted to see if you would actually go through with it.  I want to study achievement whores one day and write a thesis on it.

I don't quite understand the delight over the title, but it does sound like they are making this a totally different game now.  I'm calling it now, but I'm guessing this game has a far bigger emphasis on gun usage.

The original DR's a good looking game, too. It's pretty much the definition of "subtle beauty".... no overdone lighting or insanely complicated geometry or tons and tons of bump-mapping... it just looks really consistent and clean.

I can imagine getting repetitive stress injury from DR wii within the first hour, considering the amount of qte shit you do in that game (pushing a zombie off of you, moves like body slams) and then added shit like having to actually swing the wiimote when doing stuff like using baseball bats, hockey sticks;etc. That would get REAL tiring considering how much you have to do things like that in Dead Rising. I surely hope you don't have to swing the wiimote when you use katanas or chainsaws because fuck that would tear your arm right off, especially the mini chainsaws.

Are they going the Zelda thing where all you to do is flick your wrist to use these weapons or are you going to actually wind your arm up in order to use the baseball or hockey sticks?

I doubt it. They have screens up of the wiimote. This means you have to use the wiimote in order to do that move or use that weapon. Like jack off the wiimote to get zombies off of you.
