Don't buy a PS3. Make a friend who has one, and just bum it off him. It's not like the PS3 will have games to play regularly.

PS3 a waste of everyone’s time.

It's true. I waste so much time on the thing. I guess that really is true about all of video gaming being a waste of otherwise productive time. But let's just agree to single out the PS3.

The opposite is also true.

a ps3 has a dx9-class budget gpu fit for a $500 dell. in fact, a ps3 is roughly performance equivalent to a $500 dell. the 360, on the other, knows that it is a FAGGOTY CONSOLE first and foremost, and that is why true pc gamers buy one: to supplement pc gaming, not to replace it with a shitty budget model.
when PS3 'budget' system has better looking games than 360, i guess it's a pretty good budget system.  and hey, PS3 isn't a ticking timebomb.

a bunch of dumbed down PC games is not a supplement to PC gaming.  PS3, with games that AREN'T typically ported to PC, is a much better candidate for being a supplement to PC gaming.  having many of the same benefits as PC gaming doesn't mean PS3 will replace it--it just means it carries a lot of the same benefits, which is a good thing.

what better-looking games are these. my 360 seems to be getting a lot of games and genres that AREN'T on pc, whereas the ps3 is turning into generic fps console central

Do you have a PC? What's your favorite PC game?
i played games like quake and duke nukem when they were coming out, but what got me really hooked to online gaming was tribes.  i also did the whole CAL thing with counter-strike.  i've been to CPL and quakecon multiple times.
i've also played consoles all my life, but i've pretty much always been a PC gamer.  i game a bit less on PC nowadays.  PC gaming is in a weird period right now.
You don't say? A bit less? The last game you can name is Tribes?

Murderous rampage. The smaller, weaker 4850 handily slaps around the 8800.

The 9800 is the refreshed 8800 and it's specced to compete with the 4850, which it does, but for like $30-$40 more.

The 4870 fights with the G260, and beats it around the face and neck for like $30 less.

Faster in almost everything, except maybe Crysis.  The main weakness of the 4870 is that it only has 512 mb ram, which might be a limiting factor in some games at 1920x1200 and beyond.

You might want to wait for the 4870x2.  It's supposed to be $500-600,  have 2gbs of ram (1gb frame buffer in actuality) and almost as fast as 2 280 GTXes.

280 GTX is still the fastest single GPU card but it's losing badly to ATI's new cards in terms of value.

No doubt the 4870 is an awesome card.  I was mocking the fools that think the power of the Cell can overcome anything.

I think it actually has like 800... something? I don't know but there's a lot of them and they're supposed to be pretty great.

I just wanted to make clear that 4870>>>>>>8800. They're not even in the same tier. 8800 is basically yesterday's news, you gots to be buying 9800s now.

9800 GTX has less ram and less bandwidth though, which makes it slower at 1920x1200 than the 8800 GTX.  It makes no sense since almost all high end PC gamers play at 1920x1200 nowadays.

The potential of the 4870x2 is amazing.  Did you read this article?

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTUzMiwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

The power of 2 4870x2 would be so awesome if they could get rid of the typical latency problems that plague quad-gpu setups.

4870x2 will be a beast, hopefully. ATI seems to still have some driver issues with Crossfire. There's benchies floating around of a single 260 beating an X2 in some games. I think Crysis is the only one (but of course, it's THE game to tax high end GPUs...)

Anyway, I don't think the 8800GT, in any form, has the horsepower to push acceptable frames at 1920. It may have the bandwidth, but that doesn't mean a whole lot if the hertz saturating that bandwidth can't keep up.

It's irrelevant to me, anyway, since I rock a 1680x1050 monitor. I'm just gonna crank AA and AF  8)

They will. Playing cross-platform will be a key selling point going forward, $300 or less beats new computer prices. Mark my words!

why is it that so many people on this forum are incapable of proper reading comprehension?  this shit isn't hard :lol.  becase, actually, the last game i named was garry's mod.  however, the games listed were used to explain my past with no implication that those were the last PC games i've played.  i'm not going to write out a long list of all the PC games i've been playing for the past 10 years .

i wish the console competition wasn't so feeble in the online space, that way MS might feel the need to match the competition by making XBL free.

Alas, it's so weak that MS don't feel the need to respond :(
only thing that will make them respond is a decline in gold subscribers.  if gold subscriber numbers continue to grow, it doesn't matter what any competition is doing.  that, or they find an alternative way to make even more money off the multiplayer-tax-loving xbox population.

I mean who needs an Xbox 360 when you have a PS3 and an overclocked Amiga in the basement. You wretched thing. You pitiful beast.

Good for MS but I still really don't give a shit about GFWL.

Perhaps Dawn of War 2 will push me over the edge and finally use it.

Please. You'll buy DOW2 and use GFWL.

This is how things work. A compelling game has become tied to the service. So you must use the service. Perhaps it will be shit (but worse than Gamespy? I wonder if it's possible) Perhaps it won't, and if so, excellent.

Yeah I'm positive when the release of DoW2 rolls around I'll get over my anger towards GFWL.  Being free is a good start, but MS needs to prove to me the services worthiness over time.  I was resistant towards Steam at first as well, but Valve on me over.

Oh and the mention of Starsiege Tribes still gives me that nostalgic feeling of awesome.  There are still technically more proficient shooters out now, but pound for pound the amount of fun in Tribes is still unmatched.  I need to try the web based spiritual sequel, but I forget the name at the moment.
