Hope so. I want to like this game. I've been following Quantic Dream since Omikron, i'm just sad that HEavy Rain looks like a QTE fest.
Did you read the IGN impressions? It sounds pretty slick to me. In fact, it seems that you could complete the demo without ever having to enter into QTE mode (outside of starting the motorcycle). The demo had them exploring around the house most of the time (checking the mail, knocking on the door, pushing objects together to sneak inside, etc). After discovering a scene in the bedroom, the guy comes home and the game goes split screen (like Indigo Prophecy) and you have to find a way out. You can sneak out, engage him, run from him, etc. They claim that, if you die, you don't actually get to retry the events either and the story will continue (we'll see about that one, though). Considering that you will play as many different characters in a larger story, I can see how this might work (as there will probably be certain characters that don't even encounter a scene where death can occur). From what they wrote, the QTE events really only kicked in when the guy entering the house discovered your character.
I think the QTEs here make a bit more sense than usual, however, as you basically end up with buttons assigned to various objects on screen. IP had you just pressing directions to escape and it wasn't integrated into the world, but here, the button presses aren't just random on screen flashes anymore.
So, yeah, it seems that the formula is just an evolved Indigo Prophecy in that you spend most of the time freely exploring the world in an adventure-like mode while action scenes are handled with QTEs. All of the systems seem to be improved greatly from IP, however. Sounds like it could be pretty thrilling to me.
Also, it seems that the house created for this demo presents a scenario that is unique to the demo and has nothing to do with the main story. They just wanted a single environment to demonstrate what the game is about. It's a shame a full video walkthrough isn't available, but it seems that the demo lasted a good 45 minutes (though they showed different ways of ending it, so it was really like 25-30 minutes of linear gameplay).
I might buy a PS3 for this game - until they announce the 360 version soon after
In this case, I don't think that would happen simply because Sony is the publisher. The situation is akin to Alan Wake or Mass Effect. Both companies are not opposed to working on multiple platforms, but those specific games will be/were published by Microsoft.
