I think MS' days of outselling the PS3 are over. With the price drop, they may get a small boost for a month or two, but when you look at the factors of,

-Most people that want a 360 already have one.
-RROD is still keeping people away.
-Multiplat games becoming more and more even with the 360.
-Lowered Price point.
-Its still a blu-ray player. (the best one you can get).

You can see why its outselling the 360.

Eh, it won't help enough.

The 360 is stuck in a weird place where its not cheap enough to take the Wii audeince and not high end enough to take the PS3 audeince.

I don't follow these number things too much, but why would people buy buying a 360 in July? preparing for Braid or Too Human? hell no.  I think this month, or more in October, the sales will be huge.  Gears 2 will be a monster seller.

i don't expect PS3 to ever really start closing the gap until the PS3 is more competitively priced with 360 (if that's possible).  but the fact that the +$100 PS3 "with no games" () has been pretty consistently outselling 360 for 2008 is pretty impressive for PS3.  unless sony drops price, i expect 360 to take back the NPDs this fall, but that could very well turn right back around in early-mid 2009.

An awful lot of gloating in that thread for a 280k YTD lead in sales.

MGS4 not making the top ten isn't surprising in the least. Its got the hardcore following and that's about it.

It also wouldn't surprise me if the 360 is still $350 at the end of the year. MS isn't going to lose boatloads of money on their system this time around. And with the entertainment division losing money last quarter I highly doubt we'll see a price drop - especially when they're roughly equal in sales to Sony. They're banking on GoW2 and F2 to push the system at that price point.

20Gig SKU dropped 50 bucks its not a price cut more like clearing of channels pre a new sku ala price drops before PS3 40 Gig or PSPPhat dropping in price before PSP Slim

What on earth do summer doldrums NPDs tell us when Soul Calibur and NCAA Football are the biggest games? I haven't bought a game since Ninja Gaiden II, personally.

As to why MS is taking so long with the price cuts: I think they were suckered by the sales of the Elite (which was expected to bomb by the GAF hivemind, IIRC). They thought, damn, this thing is selling 'cause of the bigger HDD, let's keep fucking with the storage and maybe we can keep the price high! In reality, it was probably just that demand for the console was high at the time and that most buyers probably didn't much care which version they got so long as it played Gears/Halo 3 etc. Ooops!

I'm a broken record .. but since the first month PS3 "beat" 360 (March?), it's all insignificant until the holiday season. That will be the deciding factor in who won the year and who will be the HD leader going forward.

I still feel the Sony brand resonates among the "value gamers" (read as: blacks and poors). Right now, it's a race to 199. Whoever gets there first, has the best chance of winning. MS could have done it .. but they value profit over winning fanboy wars.
