PC gaming remains the backbone of the gaming world.

JunstinP is just a faker though that uses PC gaming to distract from his Sony biases.

He always acts like he is this super-macho PC gamer with awesome rig in 360 threads so he can act "nah, will wait for the superior 360 version!" yet he never does it in PS3 games thread.

You know, not to defend dfyb or anything, but that might actually have something to do with a greater overlap between 360 and PC than between PS3 and PC.

Altogether is bordering on the same insanity.

Don't worry about the fakers, Borys.   I'm still fighting the good fight.  I'm gonna get Crysis running at 1920X1200, 4XAA, 16XAF w/Very High settings no matter how much it'll cost!

I don't think I'm going to be upgrading any time soon, nor do I think I really have to. I got Crysis running well enough while looking good enough on my system, and that's where it's going to stop for a while. Maybe when Gears 2 comes out for PC. Some disagree, but I thought the performance difference was worth the double dip for Gears of War 1.

I'm sure I'm a real PC gamer, but Crysis sucks ass. Sorry, but I'm not gonna drop $2000 on a computer to play a mediocre and generic FPS just to see the mediocrity in higher quality. I'm holding out for Diablo 3 and Rage, bitches.

(Image removed from quote.)

Why would I lie? To start shit? C'mon.

I don't understand Crysis' appeal, period. I've played it and it was trash. The gameplay had promise, but the story, VO, characters, every single thing not related to the graphics that must've made up 90% of the game's budget was complete shit. Almost like an afterthought, which can't be farfetched at all.

Hell, I'd go far enough to say that Crytek as an entire developer is crap. Far Cry was a mess, and Crysis is like a remake of Far Cry minus mutants, add aliens and racial stereotypes. The crazy guy is called Psycho! The cuban guy is called Aztec! You can't tell me Crysis is anything more than a cut-and-paste FPS with pretty graphics.

So what? Crysis was fun as hell for the first half when they gave you a village, a crazy nano suit, and told you to go kill some bitches and complete an objective.  It became shit in the later half when it became Halo with good graphics.  Crysis Warhead seems like they figured out what people enjoyed from the game, so they are gonna flesh it out.  Biggest problem with Crytek is that they include some twist, which ruins both the story and gameplay.  Sure, the zero g shit was cool for the first, oh...3 minutes, but from that shit onward it was bad.  Although I do think it was great to see the ship and how good the engine could make more modern area look.

And speaking of Far Cry, the sequel seems like it is turning out pretty good.

i don't own a single PS3 title that's also on PC except CoD4, because i got it for cheap and have friends who wanted me to play.  i can't even think of games i've rented that i could have instead played on PC.  but i don't think i've ever claimed to have an awesome rig.

and as duck pointed out, PC/360 titles are VERY common so it will NATURALLY happen more in "360" threads.

I think even just switching between various nano enhancers made Crysis incredibly unique and awesome.  Using speed to get up in someones face before switching to strength and choking them never got old.

Yep, it truly felt like several great shooters in one one-the-fly configuration. In a single skirmish, I may have gone from cloaked special ops death dealer to rampaging roid-monster, back to stealthy face puncher to, you know, a regular assault rifle guy out to steal a boat. Except I now use my strength not to toss people, but to better my aim. I also may or may not have a sniper scope on my gun, and it may or may not be loaded with incendiary ammo, it depends on where I need to go, and what I need to accomplish.

To say that Crysis is mediocre, let alone generic, is to basically take a leak on a pretty gathering of every good shooter out at this time.

Which is more or less what I mean. Recently released PC shooters don't hold a candle to anything released before. There haven't been many improvements in gameplay design or innovation, or just a sense of fun that I get when playing older PC games. Trust me, it isn't nostalgia, there's simply something there that isn't present in games nowadays. The enhancements were fun to play around with, and cloaking through the forest trying to stealth kill every patrol felt really cool, almost Predator-esque or some kind of MGS3 vibe, but the novelty is quick to wear off.

Quote
Crysis is a great game under the OMG-UNBELIEVABLE graphics, period. It god tremendous backlash because of:

1) Far Cry
2) its OMG-UNBELIEVABLE graphics that require $2000 PC to run

But beneath it it's a great game with amazing mechanics.

I simply can't agree. Some newer PC FPS get my good graces, but Crysis is not one of them. I cut Bioshock some slack because the theme, art and setting were all really solid, so it was easy to ignore that it was System Shock 2 with a steampunk filter. Crysis is, at best, a 6.5 game. And no, I'm not going to level with anybody on the graphics, because they honestly don't impress me. What use is a technical achievement without real art direction to present? If I wanted to see realism, I'd just walk outside and enjoy the day; I play video games to immerse myself in fantasy and Crysis doesn't do a good job in the art department to achieve that. Of course the realism wears off as soon as you hear the MEXICAN STEREOTYPE named AZTEC scream DIOS MIO through his communicator, and you realize you're playing a cartoon.

QFT

we need more smarties

it just seems like today, premise/theme > gameplay.  where as in the past, premise/theme followed gameplay.  which is why we don't have the ridiculous (and ridiculously fun) games we had in the past.  there's been innovation, but it's all been in the confines of more realistic shooters.

I'm still surprised at the amount of Crysis bashing that goes on.  If those people really gave the game a fair shot they would see that it is anything but a "generic FPS".  It's one of the most interesting first person shooters released in years.  There is a bit of a learning curve, however, so I could see how someone might fail to enjoy the game if they hadn't spent much time with it.  The game does indeed play best with a little imagination and someones experience could be poor if the wrong approach was taken.  Once you begin to take advantage of the tools they offer you so many emergent scenarios can occur.  Can't wait for Warhead (even though the more action oriented approach concerns me).

I should also note that I HATE Far Cry.  I thought it was one of the WORST FPS games released back in 2004.  Crysis is most certainly NOT Far Cry without the Trigen.  Every major play mechanic has been redesigned for the better.

Quote

Well, those aliens don't actually show up until about 75% of the way through the game.  Even then, the suit powers DO make a difference but in a different way.  Strength, for instance, is very useful when facing them.  It's clear that their goal for the final 25% of the game was to create a bit of a thrill ride.  It's the weakest point of the game, unfortunately, but it's not bad by any means.

And that is when the game becomes shit.  Again, Crytek is unable to follow through with a good thing.  Secretly I think it is due to them wanting people to notice the tech instead of the good gameplay, so they make the game really shitty so all you enjoy is the tech.

This is why I'm happy about Crysis Warhead; it is more of the first half.

Sega's Football manager is the only thing worth getting on this platform. Valve already defected to the 360 and blizzard iz the only one left. Face it PCturds, PC gaming is DEAD. The only thing that can save it is Diablo III and that at least 2 years away

I don't mind too much that you are still in the jungle and all that, just as long as you are still the dominate warrior there and not getting upstaged by a bunch of Matrix reject robuts.

But I would really like to see more urban areas done in this engine.  The ship at the end looked amazing.

Warhead will be very boring :( I wish they moved the gameplay to some urban areas, hell I would be willing to fight those aliens in urban areas.

Oh well, there's always STALKER: Clear Sky.
STALKER plays like garbage next to Crysis.  It's a damn shame too as there are so many things I like about STALKER, but its AI is terrible and the general minute to minute gameplay feels really poor.  I know it tries to be more than a shooter and I typically love games of that type (Deus Ex, System Shock, Vampire Bloodlines, etc), but STALKER just never clicked for me.  :(  I've tried so many times to love it too.

I enjoyed STALKER a lot outside of all the horrible story/narrative elements.  Also, loading zones and strict weight limit were a bit annoying, but outside of that it was great.  I thought the shooting mechanics, and more importantly just how semi-realistic ideas were sown throughout the game worked really well.  I actually liked how my guns would start to degrade after a while, and how I had to adjust aim to land a head shot from a far distance away.  Clear Sky already seems like it will be much better.

STALKER barely has a story, so Clear Sky being a prequel doesn't really mean jack shit.  I would think playing Clear Sky would actually have you less interested to play STALKER since the gameplay mechanics seem like they are getting improved.  Then again, Clear Sky also seems to require a better PC.

Yeah it (STALKER) feels like a very... hardcore game that means made by hardcore gamers and made for hardcore gamers. I still loved it but hey - I love almost 100% games from the Eastern Europe.
If only the AI worked for me.

My biggest problem with the game is that it feels as if they flooded you with huge numbers of enemies and those enemies were extremely sensitive (more so than the original Far Cry even).  You couldn't even really sneak around as they would just automatically know where you were even if you avoided making noise or whatnot.  It just didn't work well.

I loved the actual areas you explored, but they didn't take the gameplay in a direction that appealed to me.  When exploring such places I expect a sense of isolation, but in reality, the game is filled to the brim with mindless enemies that are annoying to fight.

That damn fire problem also drove me nuts (stuttering when looking at a fire).  It turned out to be a driver issue, but the only drivers that would solve it were like 8 months old.  I don't want to run old drivers for just one game.

Quote
Then again, Clear Sky also seems to require a better PC.
Hopefully they fix the driver issues.  STALKER was extremely sensitive to such things and it was a real pain in the ass.

erm, but you realise that it takes very good art direction to achieve that feeling you had of realism? I appreciate what you are saying but by this statement you are almost advocating that it does have good art direction, and it's actually the realism you didn't like.

Is realism being considered an art style now? I had no idea. It's more of an absence of style if you ask me.

Quote
I gotta lol at people that attack Crysis for being "too realistic" yet they cum over shitty, brown, overused, trying hard to be realistic Killzone 2.

Deal with it - there will be no game looking better and offering better visuals than Crysis on this generation of consoles.

The day I tell people that I think Killzone's graphics and look is better than Crysis, you can happily disbar my opinion about any PC game for the rest of forever. Brown filters and shitty post-processing effects are stupid as hell, and I completely agree. I'll even level with you that Crysis' 'art style', or take on realism, is eons better than Killzone's distinguished mentally-challenged art design, especially since Killzone 2 jacks like a dozen things from other popular FPS games.
