The new mayor also tended carefully to her evangelical base. She appointed a pastor to the town planning board. And she began to eye the library. For years, social conservatives had pressed the library director to remove books they considered immoral.

Man, that NYT article is so fucking frightening.  She really does seem more and more like Bush the more I read about her.  DO NOT WANT.

Of course it explains SD's lusting after her since she really IS Bush with lipstick.

The article is pretty scary, yeah.

I'm not sure the pastor on the planning board is a big deal.  We have no idea what sort of authority or compensation is involved.  If it's just some kind of citizen's advisory council then no biggie.

edit: Looks like it's a voluntary part time job, and you can print out an application from the web!

On the other hand it looks like they handle zoning and building permit issues and I know that churches very often have strong opinions on local land use issues.  It's probably best to filter out pastors along with business owners as having conflicts of interest.

Huffington Post does a good job consolidating dirt I care about; and its legitimate dirt. No im not talking about the colored commentary, im talking about the videos and hard evidence provided in between. There is nothing wrong with posting FACTS where they can be found. Its not like we were all spamming the 'distinguished mentally-challenged fellow baby really her daughters' story or that we're taken in by every fucking rumor. what DOES the right find so objectionable about obama, other than the fact that he's well-educated and a great orator? don't give me that shit like "he's a socialist," because a) obama is not even close to a socialist (and it's a shame), and b) most conserva-tards don't even know what socialism is. (hell, socialism would probably benefit the under-educated middle-class rural types who vote conservative more than the urban educated elite.)

and where's the conservative appeal in a demonstrably hypocritical, hyper-religious yokel like palin? is the presidency just a sporting match to them, where they hafta stick it to those snotty city folk on the other team who sneer at their superstition, racial fears, and general paranoia?

Yeah, polibore isn't always great but I don't see anything wrong with what MAF's doing.

If you're just going to link to transcripts, excerpts, and video without commentary, what's the point of linking to multiple sites?  A symbolic nod towards open-mindedness which doesn't change the content at all?

I could see Huffington, but NYT is an actual newspaper and has to cite actual sources for any article it writes.  And that was an article, not an editorial.

The Palin bounce has erased Obama's lead in the national polls, and it has now cut into his electoral-vote advantage, according to NBC’s latest map. Obama holds a 233-227 edge here, down from his 228-200 advantage from last week. The biggest changes: We moved Florida -- with its 27 electoral votes -- from Toss-up to Lean McCain, and New Mexico from Toss-up to Lean Obama. We also shifted Oregon and Washington from Likely Obama to Lean Obama, as well as Alaska, Georgia, North Dakota and South Dakota from Lean McCain to Likely McCain. The good news for McCain is that the map looks better for him than at any point so far in this race, and many of those red states that looked like opportunities for Obama (AK, GA, IN) look to be longer shots for him. The bad news for McCain is that given the wave his campaign has been riding from the Palin bounce, is this as good as it gets? If he isn’t leading in some states now, he might not ever lead in them. Bottom line: You'll know the map is starting to move in one direction or the other if either Pennsylvania or Florida moves back into Toss-up before Election Day.

Obama will lose.

The more people attack Palin, the better off she is.  Biden doesn't have star appeal and the Obama "celebrity" wave has passed a long time ago, when it was the primaries.  If the media really wanted Palin gone, they should just not mention her at all and ignore her, kind of like what they do to Biden, Obama, and McCain.  Instead, like dumbasses, they report everything she says and does that day.  What she says is irrelevant to her popularity, which is how she can say so much stupid shit and get more than a free pass for it.

Maybe the media will talk about her so much that they will get sick of her but the people haven't grown tired of Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears and they've been overexposed for years.

If someone put a gun to my head and told me to bet who'd win I'd say McCain. Obama has been on defensive since this fucking thing began, and totally refuses to attack. These "waah McCain is playing dirty" ads are about as effective as Kerry totally ignoring the swift boat shit until it was too late.

I should probably just ignore all news until the first debate because this is pissing me off

Adding fuel to the fire ;)

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/11/beck.palin/index.html

Quote from the article, lol.

Quote
"She has no experience!"

It's fair to assume that Barack Obama believed he was qualified to be in the White House when he announced he was running for president. At that point, he had been a U.S. Senator for 767 days. When Sarah Palin was announced as a vice presidential candidate, she had been the governor of Alaska for 634 days.

While I'm sure those extra 133 days were filled with personal discovery, I can't imagine anyone seriously trying to make the case that Obama is experienced and Palin isn't.

Unless, of course, you're Matt Damon, who said a Palin presidency would be a really "scary thing" because she has been "governor of Alaska for...for less than two years!" (Damon originally expressed his presidential preference for Obama in December 2006, when he had been a senator for less than two years.)

More importantly, Palin's career has been filled with executive experience. She's the only one of the four in this race who has run a business, town, and/or state (a state that gives her crucial energy experience in the middle of an energy crisis).

When Obama's campaign complains that Palin would be one heartbeat away from the presidency, they should consider that their candidate would be zero heartbeats away.

Does make sense though. People want to say she has no experience and claim free pass, but yet the same would apply for Obama.

Also, a link to the transcript of the view.

http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/15193/

WTF @ Whoopi. Does she really think that Americans would put her back into slavery? What a MORON. Things like that and what Cameron Diaz said back in the last election also kill Democrats' legitness in the eyes of more conservative people.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Yes I know Republicans says stupid shit too. Just saying.
