90s had Exo Squad. God I loved those toys and I loved that show.

He's at least partially right.  80s cartoons were just shameless commercials with like 5 fps animation.  I'm not completely absolving 90s cartoons, or anything, but the 80s were fucking terrible.

TMNT is the only gem of 80s cartoons (and even that was a commercial), and it cusped into the 90s.

The 80s were shit in all regards except for indie music.

TMNT was mostly-crap when you wipe the nostalgia aside.  Got too stupid.

Those videos led me to this.  Awesome beat:

80's had a metric ton of scifi shows, including scifi westerns. Beating that is definitely a tall order.

Yeah, pop culture makes the 80's some paradise of animation, but when watching most of the cartoons today they seem so poorly developed.

Not many frames, contrived and illogical plots, secondary characters used as talking plot devices, main characters are barely two-dimensional, etc.

90's had The Simpsons, Futarama, The Tick, The Critic, Dr. Katz, Freakazoid, Anamaniacs, Tiny Toons, Doug, Dexter's Lab, Ren and Stimpy, Swat Kats, and more.

And you're saying 80's cartoons are better than that? lol

80's cartoons were mostly about selling toys. 90's cartoons had quality going for them. Go and watch those 80's cartoons right now and you'll see what I mean. They haven't aged well in the least. They were great when we were kids, but hey.

Yeah those shows are pretty good, but better than Gem, Bravestarr, Transformers, He-Man, M.A.S.K., Centurions, Dungeons and Dragons, Visionaries, Inspector Gadget, Ulysses 31, and Chuck Norris: Karate Kommando? I think not!

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Anyway, this is supposed to be nostalgia trip, not a battle about which decade had better cartoons.

I don't give a fuck about 90s vs 80s - these vids are awesome.  Sometimes I remember something but have no idea what cartoon it is from, but seeing these intros does the trick.

Goddam the 80s were awesome.

if we're only counting children's shows, I think 80s cartoons were better.  love Ducktales, GI Joe, and Transformers.

Pssst...The Simpsons is from the 80s.  The Tick was a comic created, IIRC, in the 80s.  Ren And Stimpy are from the 80s too!   :o

The Critic?  Dr. Catz?  HELL YEAH!  The rest?  LOLOLOOLOLOL CRAP.

The Simpsons premiered in the 80's, but it quickly became a 90's thing, not an 80's thing. The Tick being comic created in the 80's is irrelevant. The X-Men were created in the 60's, doesn't stop the cartoon in the 90's from being awesome, or the Spider Man cartoon for that matter. And we're forgetting Batman TAS. Bubububut those comics were created decades ago! They're not 90's! Irrelevant.

Ren and Stimpy cartoon was not made in the 80's. It premiered in 1991, I watched the premiere on tv the night it came on.

As for the rest, Freakazoid, Futarama and Animaniacs and the rest crap? Well that's just...wrong.
