Burn After Reading
« on: September 15, 2008, 12:59:56 AM »
Anyone here seen it yet?

I caught it today, I enjoyed it. It sometimes felt like a rehash of Lebowski and Fargo though, so I don't have a mega boner for it. Maybe a rewatch will help me appreciate it on its own.

I enjoyed it. I thought it was okay, but not great. Yeah, Pitt and Clooney were great in it though.

Pitt was awesome. Up until the point he showed up, I was pretty meh on the movie, but it got better as it went along, and the ending was perfect. I also liked Malkovich more than Clooney, but that's probably because I don't like Clooney too much.

For some reason, he reminded me of a current version of his character from O Brother Where Art Though

I think it is an allegory to the Iraq war

Bush= Francis McDermott, the aloof and clueless character fixated on plastic surgery (i.e. Saddam or oil, etc.). The means of getting it are based solely on insignificant information (i.e. faulty intelligence). Also, the violence of the film reflects real and visceral consequences.

The ending was one of the best parts! I loved the scenes with the two guys just trying to figure out what was going on.

"We have her."
"To do what with?"

My favorite part was the look on Brad Pitts face when

John Malkovich doesn't get enough credit.  He is the best, hammiest actor of all time.  There is no competition.

Yeah, like I said, I thought Malkovich was the second-best in this movie after Pitt. He was great. Clooney is overrated.

I quite liked it.

The Coen's need to do a horror movie someday, they'd kick ass at it.  The staging and direction of the

was gasp-inducing.  The opening scene in Intolerable Cruelty had another ace non-horror horror scene when Geoffrey Rush surprised his wife and her lover and only saw and heard fleeting glimpses of them both.  Heck, No Country For Old Men was halfway there already.

but yeah, Burn After Reading was quite funny and I never tire of Clooney's enthusiastic twits.

Zaniness for the sake of it. Not a single endearing character in the movie. And I like The Big Lebowski.

They both rocked.

To be honest, I'd say that Frances McDormand was the weakest part of the cast, and she STILL was great.

Clooney I thought stole the show though.

He's dead sexy

although I understand where you're coming from.  He seems to always be the same character in most of the movies he's in.  But I just like how suave he is, and I don't think I've ever disliked a movie he's been in.

Including Batman and Robin. :teehee

Well, for example, Brad Pitt is also dead sexy. But the movies he's been in, and his performances, are on a much higher plane than Clooney's.

I agree, but I just think Clooney happened to be superior in this flick.

Whereas Pitt owns face in the Oceans movies.

I've only seen Oceans 11 and thought it was OK.

Eh, maybe I just have a soft spot for those movies.  I like big star castlist movies like that.

Avoid 12, read a synopsis, and then watch 13.

Pitt has the better character.  "HA HA, YOU THINK IT'S A SCHWINN"

But Clooney's satyric paranoid has its moments: the machine, hauling around his stupid sex pillow, and particularly the end when he completely loses it.

I think the message of the movie is how coincidence can get people tangled up in situations they can't understand.
