I watched that "Sackboy of the Colossus" video where these students made an entire level that is a walking monster - and, well, if I wasn't sold on the game before that cemented it.

That colossus video resparked the interest I had when I saw the first trailer at GDC 07.

I kinda worried before that this would be yet another modern platformer with floaty controls to emphasize the zomgphysics, but it looks just fine.

Phil Harrison was smart to grab this so fast, though it's obviously disappointing that it's confined to one platform.

I might change that level anyway since I discovered a terrible glitch when going co-op with someone else.  The entire level is based on having a jetpack race to the top, but I didn't realize that if you hit the fire, the jetpack goes away but you still live.  I have to go in and change them to make them electric or something.

Right now I'm trying to make an 'epic' level, but it is really hard.  I'm trying to figure out if I can somehow make a chain that drags me through a path almost like a roller coaster.

just a head's up for anyone planning on importing their own images into the game creator

gamestop has the PS3 Eye used for $24.99, if you have the discount card it's 10% off that

it's a decent price, considering the thing is $40 new

most stores will have one in stock

i just went to the gs around the corner and picked one up

i figure the closer this game gets to release, the more people are going to catch on to the fact that you can only use the eye to take pictures and import images, so the cheaper used ones will probably get snapped up

i thought this thing did hd resolutions, btw, but it's just a regular old 640x480 usb camera - it does have the microphones, though

The camera can take decent pictures of real objects, but it is a pain to get things off my computer screen.  It also sucks that you can't crop the stickers.

It is a bit hard to explain.  You can crop images once they are on material, but if you want to paste them around the level, it has to be the full shape.

Basically there are predetermined shapes that show whatever you are pointing out with the PS Eye and that is the shape it will always be.  When you want to stamp it on something, you can stamp it on a piece of wood and then crop/change the piece of woods shape and then changing the image in the process, but you can't actually change the sticker size itself, you have the change the size of the object the sticker is on.

And this game is incredible.  The way everything works together...it just works so well.  I can't believe all the nonsense PR shit like 'youtube for games!' is actually kind of true.

If I had a proper way of taking videos I would.  It pisses me off that I am making all these levels and they will all vanish when the Beta ends.

And I have to think of another evilbore type thing to put in my new level.

I'm sure a lot of them will be rebuilt quickly.  Once you understand the tool set and exactly what you want to do, it is very simple to actually execute that plan.  I was bored in my first class today and drew up plans (yeah yeah) for a level and I can probably get it built in about 10 or 20 minute since I have the entire layout in place.  If you go into a the level creator and try to make it up as you go along, you would just end up getting overwhelmed by it all; that was actually my problem for my first three levels.

They were given out by a few European gaming sites.

The U.S. keys are supposedly going to be given out through contests over at IGN, 1Up, etc.

Just saw the super mario bros 1-1 level and it has me worried, does it play as unresponsive and slow as it looks? cause the direct comparison that level draws to a super mario bros doesn't make it look good. Probably not a good idea to port iconic levels from other platformers that aren't tuned to LBP.

It plays slightly less loose than the 2D style levels from Super Mario Galaxy.  It is more like a 3D platformer from a different camera angle than a 2D platformer, and it also focuses a lot more on different aspects than older platformers, so translating old 2D levels to LBP will be odd.

One thing I am seeing a lot of people (myself included) leaving out of their levels is the physics/puzzle gameplay you can add.  Most things so far are purely platforming levels with the occasional swing or basic grabbing.  The Heist level had a really cool bit where you are told a combination to a safe, then at the end of the level you had to move around these dice and put them in slots in that order to open the door.

Even the level I will be making later tonight is a platforming based level and the next one will probably be more puzzle based.

What the? The jumping physics didn't seem that wonky in previous vids. Or maybe I just haven't been paying close attention. Either way, yeah that doesn't look too fun. :/

The worst part about the creation is when you come across limitations.  I was building an entire house with different floors that would constantly be rotating so you would be walking on the walls and ceiling and all that, but it couldn't work with an object that big.  One room was fine to rotate, but not the entire house.

went through the first few tutorial levels then when the online stuff was open I tried a few user made levels, even a gears of war level, that was pretty awesome

tons of tutorials to learn with the level creator before I felt confident to make a shitty level, but quite a few of options so far.

game should be a huge hit
