I still can't believe we are getting an avengers movie :hyper

Josh Wheadon :gloomy

I just wish Marvel had ponied up the cash for Ed Norton.  :fbm

What cash? Marvel didn't want him in The Avengers after he shit all over the cast and crew of the last Hulk movie. They didn't want an egotistical asshole in their big ensemble movie.

Whoa! I'd never read any of that before. From teh wiki:
Quote
Norton explained of his decision to ignore Lee's origin story, "I don't even like the phrase origin story, and I don't think in great literature and great films that explaining the roots of the story doesn't mean it comes in the beginning."[10] "Audiences know this story," he added, "[so] deal with it artfully." He wanted to "have revelations even in the third act about what set this whole thing in motion".[12] The new origin story references Ultimate Marvel's take on the Hulk, which also had him created in an attempt to create super soldiers.[46] Norton deleted Rick Jones and toned down S.H.I.E.L.D.'s presence.[18] He also added the scene where Banner attempts to extract a cure from a flower and his e-mailing with Samuel Sterns,[41] which references Bruce Jones' story.[47] Norton rewrote scenes every day.[20] Ultimately, the Writers Guild of America decided to credit the script solely to Penn,[48] who argued Norton had not dramatically changed his script. Journalist Anne Thompson explained "The Guild tends to favor plot, structure and pre-existing characters over dialogue." Before either Penn and Norton joined the project, an anonymous screenwriter wrote a draft and lobbied for credit.[41]

This kind of explains what happened in the Sega HULK game, in as much as SHIELD and Rick Jones feature in it extensively.

Then again, there are a bunch of comic book characters which show up in it, so I just assumed it was because of that.

I don't think it matters who plays Bruce Banner in the Avengers, really. There's a dozen characters in the movie, everyone's only gonna get around ten minutes of screen time anyway.

Jacob's Ladder
Awesome movie.  Wow.  The acting is incredible all the way through.  The ending is a bit obvious considering all the hints that are smacking you in the forehead.  But what an amazing ride.  The acting was so believably awesome.  I can't get over how good it was.  Jezebel looking at him and saying "Please don't go" was awesome.  The horror effects were so subtle and not overdone.  Only the scene in the hospital was really over the top and it was so amazingly well done.  Ah fuck.  I'm gonna need to watch this again soon.

Man, I wish that Golan-Globus had made their Spider-Man movie back in the 80's:

Quote
Golan and Globus misunderstood the concept of the character—"They thought it was like The Wolf Man", said director Joseph Zito—and instructed writer Leslie Stevens, creator of the television series The Outer Limits, to write a treatment reflecting their misconception. In Stevens's story, a corporate scientist intentionally subjects ID-badge photographer Peter Parker to radioactive bombardment, transforming him into a hairy, suicidal, eight-armed monster. The human tarantula refuses to join the scientist’s new master-race of mutants, battling a succession of mutations kept in a basement laboratory.

I liked Pitch Black. It was a ripoff of Alien/Aliens, but had some neat elements to it. Chronicles was kind of okay and kind of not okay. Wasn't really that big on it when I saw it in theaters 7 years ago.

The OVA by Peter Chung is AWESOME though.

Oh, forgot I saw Green Lantern last weekend.

There's my review.  Not bad, not good, just forgettable.  Also, fuck 3D movies with a dick made of cactus thorns.

I did see the long trailer for Captain America, and it made me want to see Captain America.  Looks like more of an old action movie than anything else, lots of practical effects and not so much video game CGI.

I still like Shyamalamadingdong.  I'll defend everything pre-The Happening.

He's a victim of huge ego and in turn his movies suffer from great concept/bad exection-itis.

I'll even defend Lady in the Water.  So much wrong with that movie but I still love it.

If!  It still has redeeming qualities, but it's his worst movies before falling off the cliff that I call The Happening.  He was past the point of no return there.  The Village, Lady in the Water and The Sixth Sense are way better movies than Signs.

if I had to guess, I don't think it will be in the film

they went through all the trouble to make swinging a practical effect with stunt men actually swinging through city streets, and they didn't show it? it's probably not ready yet.  but they needed a way to show spider-man doing what he does.  that's where the first person stuff came in.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes looks to be the worst major film that will be released in the next fifty years.

The Amazing Spiderman will probably be second-worst.
The last planet of the apes movie is the worst movie to be released in the last 50 years.  That's a whole century of shit thanks to that series.

I think Signs was well made and manifested the tension levels much better than his other films. Unbreakable is easily the biggest offender of Knight's crutch.

So is the Last Airbender not even laughably bad? It's on netflix. I want to watch something to laugh at while I eat.

Not even, unfortunately. It's painfully generic and painfully boring. Bad special effects, laidback direction, flat acting, awkward dialog. It's not even worth watching for a laugh.

I forgot I saw The Others Tuesday night.  I don't know why I remembered this to be a good movie.  Terrible pacing, terrible accents, terrible child actors and painful exposition.  Is there anything more boring than seeing Nicole Kidman walk around the house explaining the paper thin plot for an hour?  I guess maybe if Julia Roberts was doing it.  That would be worse.  Yes.  There's like a total of 5 really good scenes and a couple more decent ones that add up to no more than 15 minutes of goodness.  The one thing that's fantastic is the atmosphere.  That house was the perfect place for the movie.  The cinematography was gorgeous and creepy.  But the script was so terrible.  They seriously couldn't keep the ghostly caretakers in their pants for more than a few minutes and then they fell back on mundane outdated shit to try to make them scary.  It was almost funny.  But mostly sad.  Fuck that movie.

Can't remember the plot...of the Headless Horseman myth?  ???

As for Burton, I mostly agree with Oscar.  I think he peaked early in his career when his creative juices were still truly flowing, relatively fresh out of his tenure at CalArts.  Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood are his best movies I'd wager, with considerations towards Batman and Sleepy Hollow.  I don't know his posse very well, but whoever his trite art director has been for the past decade needs to be axed, and quickly.  He takes Burton's inherent creativity and vision and Frankensteins it.  It's not flattering and its not endearing anymore.  And it's just another "me too!" in modern, soulless cinema.

edit: oh christ I forgot about Big Fish.  Add that to his best films.  Truly a diamond in the aughts' roughs.
