Trailers make it look big, where are you getting all this grounded talk from?
Goyers interview in the new Empire where he said he wrote it like it wasn't a comic book but instead realistic.
There's more to it than that, ignoring how vague 'realistic' means for a film about a guy flying around in a onesie. It was compared to ET or the day the earth stood, and how Superman is mankind's first contact with extraterrestrials, and the alien qualities of the character.
I took that to mean something like, well, in Thor, you have all these aliens battling it out in some town and it ends with "oh, alien guy, join our superhero team." Superman is "FUCK it's a space monster! call the government and experiment on this dude!" and Ma and Pa Kent want to stop people from finding out for that reason, and Clark is all depressed and shit because he knows he can help people but exposing himself might be worse. Wait, so it's like Ang Lee's Hulk...fu
I dunno. The trailers did nothing for me but I'm not unhappy about what they're doing with it. I agree that it's a bit sad that if they'll continue with this direction we won't see the 'out there' aspects of Superman. And since DC will go forward with Justice League, because because, Darkseid or Mongul will be saved for those. Doomsday could go either way, like, Superman dies in Justice League 3 and is resurrected in Superman 5. What we'll end up with is Lex + Metallo + Parasite, maybe Braniac, and then they'll reboot it.
