What's the budget for Pacific Rim?

pretty cool if they can make a robot that size look less CG than Transformers

No specifics are out there, but I'd be shocked if it's much less than $200 million.

White House Down

not to be confused with Olympus Has Fallen

White House Down has a black president, thus is more realistic

Pretty much pretend the first GI Joe doesn't exist and the new one is great. Felt like a GI Joe movie, and better than all three Transformers. You can tell John Chu was a fan of the original cartoon and Larry Hamma comics. Cobra has the cool tech and vehicles they had in the show. There are Hiss tanks, Water Moccasin boats, a Mamba helicopter etc.

The rumors of the year delay to add more Channing Tatum were BS...

spoiler (click to show/hide)
They still wipe him out within the first fifteen minutes, which kind of sucks because the Duke/Roadblock friendship was perfect and just like it was in the cartoon/comics.

Yeah really pumped for the new GI Joe film, the 2009 one was awesome.

To be honest, Cobra are too futuristic to really be considered a serious threat.

I don't why that movie is a comedy.  The real story is all kinds of fucked, and is definitely more interesting than watching Michael Bay shit on a movie screen.

Go watch spring breakers then... seriously I'm glad its a comedy. I was hoping spring breakers was gonna be one too, but it took a much more serious tone than I thought it would have.

Wolverine trailer looks tasty.

Pain and Gain looks like the first good Bay film since The Rock. Maybe after this experience, Bay will reboot that original hit, with these guys:  THE ROCK, STARRING THE ROCK.

I still think HOTD is a good movie, but it feels like it's missing a major horror "hook" scene. It certainly has some great moments but just feels like one more scene could have taken it to another level
spoiler (click to show/hide)
I really don't like the decision to have the young lady black out when the old lady comes out of the attic. It seems like they could have done something with that scene, perhaps with the mother crawling down the stairs towards the young lady...or something. Dunno

just watched The Lorax on a 3d blu ray. Very good looking movie, but a very bad movie.

Basically pissed all over one of my favorite books, and, my god, the fucking songs. Had to be the worst songs I had ever fucking heard, and professional musicians were paid to write them
:dead

case in point:

The Lorax himself and the animals were good, but all the human characters were such douchebags. Especially Once-ler. Actually, the lead boy wasn't too irritating and the girl was voiced by Taylor Swift, so I was having trouble stifling a boner when she was talking.

But overall fucking dreadful and unforgivable. Dr Suess would be rolling in his grave seeing how his material has been defiled.
:sadcam

Going to watch Escape From New York now, which will be much better.

Star Wars 3 is on the telly. Seems so outlandish that star wars went from simple adventure films where the good/bad guys are color coded to having politicians plotting to overtake a government from the shadows.

Well, Spring Breakers was interesting.  He basically through everything (500%) at the wall in hopes enough would stick and about 60-70% does.  The first half is pretty strong and then it meanders a bit and isn't quite as strong in the 2nd half though it has it's moments.  Visually it's gorgeous and oozes style and the soundtrack is great.  It's not quite a successful movie, but I'd rather spend 90 minutes of my time in this psychedelic dreamland of art than many a movie so it was worth watching.

I was just backreading the thread and I couldn't for the life of me understand the praise for HOTD, or Uwe Boll's House of the Dead, and then I agreed with what was actually being said.

anyways, Olympus Has Fallen might end up being the dumbest action film of the year, and the action is largely incomprehensible, but at least its violent as shit (so many stabbings) and its also violent as shit.  Were it not for the more modern style of action filmmaking (re: inferior) it would have fit comfortably into any 90's action film cannon.  Hell the CGI looks like it came from then anyway.  Two Stars.

Saw this on Netflix and it was interesting. It's a new take on the found footage genre.  Has anyone else seen it? What's the story on this? Fictional? Semi-fictional? IMDB doesn't have a lot of information.

You'll want to re-host that, I think.

Canada mech is awesome.

However, I gotta say they missed a golden opportunity to make the Japanese mech in the movie more anime-styled.  I mean I get the producers are like NO ANIME, THIS WESTERN TRANSFORMERS MOVIE; but you'd think they could've at least squeezed in one anime-styled mech and explained that it was from Japan.

By anime-styled I mean making it thinner, maybe V-fins, some giant ass sword.  Gundam-ish.  Something like this:

Though maybe they'd be worried that it'd steal the show and outshine the main mech designs if they did and that would be bad since the main mech is supposed to be the coolest.

Anyhow, small peeves.  Movie will still be awesome.
