Rock of Ages - Rented it because it was free. Must have been free cause anyone who rented it would demand their money back. Turned it off 20 minutes in.

Savages - Not bad. Not good.  :beli

Ted - Had it's moments but meh overall.

Watched drive last night. Thought it was decent enough but not as good as I had expected based on the reviews. Decent movie that I will completely forgot ever existed in a month.

I did like how it had the pacing and sort of tone of a 70's movie.

Cool as Ice - Rifftrax

Average riffing, but the movie itself was as retardedly funny as you'd expect. The best riffs were when they kept mixing him up with Snow or House of Pain, and the random TMNT 2 references.

Watched a netflix thing on Jonestown.

http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/American_Experience_Jonestown_The_Life_and_Death_of_Peoples_Temple/70058891?locale=en-US

Was pretty good. Kinda heart breaking as a lot of the people involved and affected are still alive. I knew the basic details already but it did help fill out a few gaps in my knowledge.

Also watched Marathon Man which I had obviously always heard about but never seen. I compare it to something like Drive in that it was a lot better than I expected compared to drive being the opposite. Different movies of course but Marathon Man exceeded my expectations. Was really good and a nice 70's tense thriller.

Ted - Had it's moments but meh overall.

I've been meaning to rewatch Marathon Man for a few weeks now. I'm happy to hear it's still entertaining.

OTOH, I am sad if Savages turns out "meh." I've read the book, and had been waffling on a rental for a while now.

Yeah, but I can't believe all the liberties they took with the original book, just to make a viable movie:

Reading up on Amazing Spider-Man 2 stuff since I missed it up until now and they're cramming a lot of new stuff into it.  Electro, Rhino, Norm Osborn, Harry Osborn, MJ, (presumably) Daily Bugle, and some other teases.  Plus (first movie spoilers)

Conners/Lizard is still alive.

I'm guessing there will be an Amazing Spider-Man 3 at some point or this is a bit much for one movie.

i would be SO DOWN with it if they just fast-forwarded through all the origin sequences and were just like HERE IS A TYPICAL FUCKED-UP DAY IN THE LIFE OF SPIDER-MAN and showed him thrashing around aimlessly in a seemingly infinite sea of crazy costumed villainy for 2 hours, quipping like crazy and emerging triumphant

I want a Spider-Man movie based on the newspaper comic. It will be 30 minutes of Spider-Man getting clonked on the head by bad guys, 20 minutes of Peter Parker whining about Mary Jane's successful career, 30 minutes of Peter Parker doing nothing, 15 minutes of some other superhero being a better superhero than Spider-Man, 5 minutes of Peter Parker being a smug jerk to some lowlife thugs, and then the bad guy escapes from the police after finally being captured because whatever.

How the HELL is this showing up front-and-center on Apple's trailer page? It is getting cross-linked from other Trailers, and it's on the Opening Soon list, but how the hell does a piece-of-crap like this even get released?

Also, TSOG shows this is some kind of Libertarian-made movie; if this is how they'd run the post office and fire department privately, people should get ready for a world of undelivered mail to burned down houses.

I don't care about the new TMNT film or what Bay is doing; as I said earlier, I know what TMNT is and isn't so I can't be upset with whatever turd Bay creates. Same with Transformers and GI Joe. They can't be ruined because they already exist in my heart/mind.

That's GI Joe in my mind, couldn't care less that they made a crappy movie a few years ago.

Possible Iron Man 3 post credits scene to set up Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers 2:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Apparently the SOS is received at the end of the movie, and is from one Star-Lord (mask and all), so Tony takes off to find him (noting that, with the space armor, he’s “ready this time”). Jarvis asks Tony where he’s going and Tony simply replies, “I’ll be back.” This heavily implies to me that GOTG is probably going to take place before IM3, and will end with Starlord sending out the SOS (presumably Thanos is the source of distress and Starlord is warning them that he’s heading towards Earth) and that Avengers 2 is going to begin (or at some point involve) Tony bringing back the Guardians to help with Thanos.

movies i watched today. worst to best

Killing Them Softly
the usage of the election as a framework doesnt work. the story is decently well told but does a bad job at making me care. Pitt is the reason to watch

The Master
amazing directing. really beautiful flick. Phoenix and Hoffman knock it outta the park. doesn't really maintain it's foothold since it meanders a bit in the middle. hard to understand the point of the movie IMO.

Flight
that crash sequence in the beginning is incredible. Denzel is great. really good character piece. the build up to the characters redemption is frustrating, in a good way.
