Yesterday I watched Howard Hawks'
Scarface, and it wasn't what I expected at all! Seeing the opening slides that classify the film as a condemnation of America's justice system kinda made me go

but the film itself was a fun little romp with compelling performances, Tony especially. I tried watching the Brian De Palma remake afterward, having never seen it, but I got bored 20 minutes in and turned it off. Sorry

A Brian De Palma film I actually
did finish watching, however, was
Carrie. All I can really say about that movie was that it was pretty fucked up! An alternate title could've been "Fucked Up Shit Happens: The Movie". Carrie's mother reminded me of my own in a lot of ways o_o what with her violent and twisted brand of fundamentalist religion; but it was pretty rad to see all the people that mistreated Carrie get obliterated in the end. The climax during the prom was way more violent than I thought it'd be and it made me wonder if there was controversy surrounding the theatrical release.
Another notable film I saw a little while back was
We Need To Talk About Kevin. I didn't know anything about the movie going in, so at first it just seemed like a movie about a very sad woman (flawlessly portrayed by Tilda Swinton

) trapped in her dysfunctional family, but then the third act took it to another dimension
entirely. I can't remember the last time a flick made me so squeamish.
