Aquaman (2018)I can't believe this movie made a billion dollars

It's watchable, but absolute fluff, generally leaning on the shittier side of things. There shouldn't have been any excitement coming out of Justice League, but then so much of the money came in the weeks after it released, which means it had a great word of mouth...which also makes no sense. It's not even something like Venom which was trashy fun, this was just...okay. There's nothing particularly memorable in any direction, the leads all were not good, the effects ranged from seamless to janky as hell. It's basically held up by Jason Mamoa's charisma, but I don't even know if he's actually charismatic or if he exudes a form of masculinity that is rarely seen anymore in a positive manner that people are drawn to him. It's definitely not the same kind of charisma that the 80s action stars had, at least.
I thought it was tonally extremely inconsistent, jumping from super serious to borderline slapstick to horror to...schmaltzy adventure romance? Idk it was weird. The deaging effect looked great on Nicole Kidman, but Willem DaGawd looked so fucking bizarre. I was kind of confused that they referenced Justice League and beating Steppenwolf, and Aquadude was the home town legend of some tiny town in like Iceland or some shit in that movie, but it turns out he's actually is from and lives in Maine? Yet no one has an accent there, and he speaks Maori, has Maori tats, and does haka dances with his trident. Did he just go chill in Iceland for years, long enough to have murals and shit?
Tbh this felt like a super big budget 90s super hero movie, which isn't particularly a good thing.
